The Huka-Huka is a traditional Indigenous wrestling practice of the Kamayurá and other peoples of the Xingu in Brazil, in the state of Mato Grosso. Traditionally associated with ceremonies such as the Kuarup, the contest tests strength, technique, courage, and physical control. Beginning on their knees, wrestlers grapple with the aim of taking their opponent down. It is a powerful expression of Indigenous tradition, identity, and athleticism.

Being able to dance alone in your house and genuinely have the time of your life is such an underrated flex. Imagine being your own source of happiness. So many people will never understand this kind of freedom.

“I see the sun in your eyes, I see the stars in your eyes, I see the colours of the rainbow in your eyes.” Now I understand what 2Baba meant when he sang about the African woman. There’s something captivating about those glittering eyes, especially against the beauty of her dark skin. She carries a kind of warmth, colour, and radiance that makes the lyrics feel almost literal.

There’s something about laundry lines in a village compound that an industrial dryer could never replicate. They carry such sweet memories. Washing your younger siblings’ clothes, helping hang everything out in the morning sun, reaching for your favourite pair as soon as it dried, and watching the clothes sway gently in the afternoon breeze. Those lines hung more than clothes. They hung memories of childhood, of family, of ordinary days that somehow became the ones you remember most. City life gives us convenience, but sometimes I think the village gave us something far more precious: memories woven into the simplest parts of life.

One thing I find fascinating about African women is the way a simple piece of cloth can become almost anything. What we generally call a wrapper in English has different names across Africa, ìró among the Yoruba, for example, and pagne or lappa in other parts of West Africa. But what fascinates me isn't just the name. It's how incredibly versatile it is. You can wear it around the house while cooking, cleaning or relaxing, sleep in it at night, throw it on for a quick trip outside, or dress it up with a blouse and head tie for a wedding, ceremony or celebration. Depending on the culture and circumstance, the same cloth can even be adapted for practical purposes beyond clothing. Housewear. Sleepwear. Everyday wear. Ceremonial wear. Fashion. Tradition. Practicality. One piece of cloth, countless possibilities. The African wrapper isn't just clothing. It's a little piece of African ingenuity wrapped around you.

This is Mozambique. It has approximately 2,500 km of coastline along the Indian Ocean, making it one of Africa’s coastal countries with an extensive stretch of beaches.😜

A beautiful celebration of Zulu heritage, love, and tradition. 👑🐆❤️ The leopard skin, traditionally associated with royalty and chiefs, carries a sense of strength, courage, and status, while the feathered headdress and colourful beadwork add their own touches of cultural meaning and elegance. Dressed in ceremonial regalia and standing beside his partner, the couple look both regal and deeply connected to their heritage. There is something beautiful about seeing love and tradition come together so naturally, with the richness of Zulu culture shining through every detail. ❤️

Iriabo, a traditional womanhood rite among the Okrika people of Nigeria, is more than a celebration. It marks the transition into womanhood, where women are guided, taught, celebrated, and welcomed into a new stage of life through the wisdom of older women and the wider community. From the songs that carry lessons about womanhood and relationships to the ceremony that honours this new status, Iriabo reflects how culture can educate, connect generations, and preserve identity.
