The suspect faces the following charges: 1. [SUSPECTS ARRESTED] 3 suspects were arrested this morning, and are expected to appear before the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 27 December 2024, charged for attempted murder. The 53-year-old, Mare Hanscombe who was stabbed with a sharp object, has been discharged from the hospital this morning. The incident happened on Monday, 16 December 2024, at about 17:10 at Hanscombe Resort in Orkney. It is alleged that on the said day, a group of people were at the resort entertaining themselves. Whilst there, it was noticed by one of the workers that they were smoking hubbly-bubbly, and that is not allowed. The employee tried to warn them not to do that, but allegedly, the group did not cooperate, and the owner was called. Upon arrival, Hanscombe also tried to warn the group to stop what they were doing, and asked the group that he'll take the hubbly-bubbly and keep it safe in the reception and when the leave, they can just take it there. Furthermore, one of the men who was part of the group became aggressive and attacked Hanscombe and that's when the fighting ensued. During the altercation, Hanscombe was stabbed on the back and was rushed to the local hospital. After the whole ordeal, some of the group members rushed to the police station and registered 4 cases of Assault Common against Hanscombe and later the victim's son also went to the police station to register a case docket.

[UNDER INVESTIGATION] An investigation is underway regarding an incident (with video circulated on various social media platforms) whereby a SAPS Constable allegedly assaulted a member of the public. The incident is said to have occurred on 02 April 2026, at the Volksrust Police Station. It is worth noting that in light of the serious allegation, the SAPS has instituted an internal investigation to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. In addition to the internal investigation, a criminal investigation is also underway to ensure all aspects of this matter are addressed transparently. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified of the incident and it is expected that a parallel investigation will be conducted by this Directorate.

[ONE KILLED AND ANOTHER INJURED BY A MOB IN A STOCKTHEFT RELATED INCIDENT] Police at Verena are investigating a stock theft related incident whereby two male persons were reportedly cornered and assaulted by an unidentified group of people after being reportedly found with livestock believed to have been stolen. One of the alleged suspects died whilst the other one sustained some injuries. The incident occurred in Verena on Wednesday, 24 December 2024. According to a report, Police as well Medical Emergency Services were called to the scene, and it was during this period when one of the men was pronounced dead, while the other was taken to the hospital for treatment. He is currently hospitalized under Police guard. The incident is believed to be linked to stocktheft incident, where 26 cattle, six goats, and a donkey were reportedly stolen from a certain farm in Verena. The Police investigation indicates that a shepherd was attacked earlier that day then robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. Thereafter, the suspects are believed to have fled the scene in two bakkies with trailers when their vehicles got stuck in the mud, leading to their capture and attack by the mob. Two bakkies were also torched during the incident.

[HIJACKING AND KIDNAPPING] Police foiled a kidnapping plot in Katlehong, resulting in the rescue of two victims and the arrest of four suspects, including a popular Vaal DJ Spitjo from Sebokeng. Preliminary report suggests that, information was received from a night-shift security officer at Eastgate Mall regarding suspicious activities involving individuals impersonating another person using her mobile phone. Acting on this intelligence, police initiated a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation which led to the arrest of three suspects at Eastgate Mall. Subsequent investigations directed the police to a safe house in Dikole Section, Katlehong. Upon arrival, an exchange of gunfire ensued. One additional suspect was apprehended at the scene, and two unlicensed firearms with live ammunition were recovered. Two victims, a male and a female, were found at the ‘safe house’ and rescued without injuries. The female victim had earlier been hijacked while driving a navy blue BMW X3 and was subsequently forced to transfer an estimated amount of R180,000 from her bank accounts.

The Limpopo High Court has DISMISSED the latest bail application brought by Limpopo artist Lehlogonolo “Shebe Maburna/Shebeshxt” Chauke, finding that no new facts were presented to justify a reconsideration of his release on bail. Accordingly, the accused will remain in custody pending the finalisation of the criminal proceedings. The matter will now proceed after numerous unmeritorious interlocutory applications brought by the defence.

[PROMOTED] Warrant Officer TM Mnisi, who recently displayed exceptional bravery while off duty and on his way home when he observed a business robbery in progress at the Boxer store in Orange Farm, has been promoted to the rank of CAPTAIN. On 12 December 2025 at approximately 18:00, Captain Mnisi, who was stationed at the Sedibeng K9 Unit, confronted a group of armed suspects and immediately requested backup. He strategically positioned his state vehicle to block the entrance to the parking area in an effort to prevent the suspects from fleeing. [PROMOTED] Warrant Officer TM Mnisi, who recently displayed exceptional bravery while off duty and on his way home when he observed a business robbery in progress at the Boxer store in Orange Farm, has been promoted to the rank of CAPTAIN. On 12 December 2025 at approximately 18:00, Captain Mnisi, who was stationed at the Sedibeng K9 Unit, confronted a group of armed suspects and immediately requested backup. [DISCIPLINARY ACTION] The video circulating on social media, in which members of Brackendowns SAPS are seen allegedly refusing to assist a member of the public with an affidavit, has been brought to the attention of the Acting District Commissioner for Ekurhuleni, Brigadier David Ngcobo. The members depicted in the video have since been identified. The matter is being addressed internally, and the members concerned will be subjected to appropriate internal disciplinary processes. The Acting District Commissioner has condemned the conduct depicted in the video and reiterates that members of the South African Police Service are expected to serve the public with professionalism, courtesy and respect as required by the Code of Conduct. Members of the public are encouraged to report service delivery complaints involving SAPS members to the following numbers; SAPS National Complaints Service Centre at 0800 333 177
