I don’t know if I will ever address this again at least I won’t on my social media. I’ve always thought it was something petty to worry about because the discrimination that I face because of this is so minimal compared to what others have faced. But it is getting pretty annoying because the older I get and the further away we get from when apartheid happened it’s almost like the less educated people are on the history of South Africa and apartheid and the nasty comments people make that are very judgmental as a result of their ignorance on the subject. Ironically makes them look prejudice themselves. My whole life A lot of people call me racist, or cringe, because I have this tattoo of (“nkosi sikelel iafrika” which means god bless Africa). They also make these same comments because I “look the part” of a racist South African, and the most ironic thing is if you knew anything about me and my parents, and how we were and are big resistors of apartheid… my parents voted for Nelson Mandela and I was too young to vote at the time. But he was such an important idol in my life. I would say my biggest idol. And has left such an impression on me that I decided to tattoo the national anthem and the song of his resistance movement on my chest as a way to say thank you for what you’ve done from my country and to show support for the new rainbow nation that he created. I will never be ashamed of that no matter how ignorant other people are. I know what this tattoo means to me and what its original meaning meant. And I will never be ashamed of it, and I will wear a proudly for the rest of my life, which is what I intended when I got it almost 20 years ago. #proudsouthafrican
