Context/Details: January 2, 2024, Brazil. In a shocking incident at the Praia do Murubira beach, 24-year-old Gerson Carvalho Alencar Correia was arrested for attempted femicide. The event, which took place on a Tuesday afternoon, saw Gerson attacking a woman with a bottle to her head. This violent act was witnessed by beachgoers who then chased after Gerson in an attempt to detain him. The pursuit of Gerson was captured on video by other beach visitors and later shared on social media. Despite an attempt by a man to pull Gerson by his shorts, he managed to escape. At one point, a police officer is seen pointing a gun at the suspect, causing distress among the onlookers. However, his freedom was short-lived as other police officers continued the chase and soon apprehended him. The victim of this assault was taken to the Hospital Geral de Mosqueiro and, fortunately, her life was not in danger. After receiving medical treatment and being discharged, she confirmed that the aggressor was her partner and revealed that the attack occurred following a dispute between them. The Civil Police of Pará, upon being contacted, stated that "the man was arrested in flagrante delicto for the crime of attempted feminicide and is at the disposal of the Justice. The victim was taken to a health unit and, after medical discharge, was heard by the police team of the Mosqueiro station." Gerson was presented at the Seccional Urbana de Mosqueiro by the Military Police. He was formally charged and subsequently transferred to the Secretaria de Estado de Administração Penitenciária (Seap), where he remains in custody, awaiting trial for the crimes attributed to him. Left alone in the elevator, her unfamiliarity with its operation led to a state of panic when the doors began to close. In a state of alarm and confusion, she attempted to pry open the elevator doors. This action inadvertently activated the elevator's automatic safety mechanism, causing it to halt between floors. The situation escalated when the individual, noticing a small gap between the elevator and the building's wall, attempted to escape through this narrow space. Tragically, she became wedged at the waist, suspended between the elevator car and the outer wall. Her distress was evident, as she continuously cried out. Her son, alerted by her calls for help, quickly notified the building's security and the fire department, initiating the rescue operation. The emergency response was swift and involved a significant deployment of resources. The local fire department dispatched 14 firefighters and two fire trucks to the scene. The tragic incident at a Halloween party in North Lawndale, Chicago, unfolded in the early hours of a Sunday when William Groves, a 48-year-old six-time convicted felon, opened fire at a crowd, injuring 15 people. However, the man's family appeared and informed authorities that he suffers from schizophrenia. During questioning, the man denied having assaulted the teenager but confirmed that he had "some mental issues and frequented the CAPS (Psychosocial Care Center)." This violent reaction came after learning that the boy had been in an altercation with Cobzaru's 8-year-old stepson. The video footage shows Cobzaru aggressively approaching the teenager, who was on a swing, lifting him above his head and slamming him onto the ground. The impact was so severe that the boy was rendered unconscious. Following the attack, Cobzaru also turned his aggression towards his stepson, shoving and verbally abusing him. The injured nephew was rushed to the hospital in Deva, where he was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and a fractured occipital bone. Fortunately, his condition stabilized, and surgery was deemed unnecessary. The video of the attack quickly went viral, leading to a public outcry for justice. An online petition demanding life imprisonment for Cobzaru garnered tens of thousands of signatures. In response to the incident, local authorities took immediate action by initiating social investigations at the homes of both children involved.
