"Like with Shunsuke, after he disappears, he ends up working in a strip theater in Japan. That whole section isn't really shown in the film. It existed in the script and filming but couldn't be included. It's because, the story should ultimately be about Kikuo's life and his journey towards becoming a National Treasure. So if Shunsuke's story had been shown in too much detail, it would change the balance of the plot. In the original novel, there are characters who play very important roles as well but some of them don't appear in the film the same way.
