🇱🇹🇩🇪 For the first time since World War II, Germany is permanently stationing a combat brigade abroad! Around 5,000 German personnel will be based in Lithuania, close to the Belarusian border - and that’s only the visible part of a much bigger military structure. When we talk about the German brigade in Lithuania, we often picture a few thousand troops, Leopard 2 tanks and Puma infantry fighting vehicles. But there’s much more to it than that. 🇩🇪 The 45th Armoured Brigade “Lithuania” (Panzerbrigade 45) is part of Germany’s 10th Panzer Division. What Germany is building in Lithuania isn’t an isolated military outpost - it’s a fully integrated formation within the wider German Army structure. ▪️ The Scale: By the end of 2027, around 4,800 German troops and 200 civilian Bundeswehr personnel are expected to be stationed in Lithuania. ▪️ The Locations: The main bases will be Rūdninkai and Rukla. Rūdninkai sits just ~35 km from the Belarusian border. ▪️ The Core: The brigade includes the 203rd Tank Battalion with Leopard 2 tanks and the 122nd Panzergrenadier Battalion with Puma IFVs. ▪️ Full Capabilities: A brigade is much more than armour. It brings together combat and support elements including reconnaissance, engineers, logistics, medical and communications units. ▪️ NATO Integration: NATO’s Multinational Battlegroup Lithuania is now part of the brigade, serving as its third combat formation. ▪️ Air & Shield: The brigade doesn’t operate in isolation. Lithuania’s defence is backed by the wider NATO air-defence and air-power structure, including allied combat aircraft such as Germany’s Eurofighter Typhoons. This isn't just about presence, it's about ultimate deterrence. By reinforcing NATO’s eastern flank this decisively, it sends a loud and clear message that the Baltic states are safe🛡️ 🛡️🛡️

🇱🇹 Near Kaunas, in the village of Saliai, a secret underground printing house operated for many years beneath an ordinary home and greenhouse during the Soviet ☭ occupation of Lithuania and it was never discovered by the KGB. Deep underground, reached by a narrow staircase, banned publications dealing with Lithuanian history, religion, philosophy, and poetry were printed here, becoming an important part of Lithuania’s resistance to the Soviet system. 🛩 25 years ago, on September 2, 2000, Lithuanian 🇱🇹 pilot Jurgis Kairys flew upside down under the Simonas Daukantas Bridge in Kaunas and the whole stunt was watched live by Formula 1 legend Mika Häkkinen 🇫🇮, who was genuinely impressed by what he saw. In fact, Kairys has a remarkable record: - on July 4, 1996 he became the first in the world to officially fly under a pedestrian bridge - in Kaunas; - on September 18, 1999 he flew under ten Neris River bridges in Vilnius; - and on September 2, 2000 he became the first in the world to fly upside down under a pedestrian bridge - in Kaunas😊🤘🇱🇹

Lithuania is a former Grand Duchy of Lithuania, not a "former Soviet state". Lithuania 🇱🇹was illegally occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940. Despite Soviet claims, Lithuania never legally ceased to exist as a state. BBC News (World), please take note: The term "former Soviet state" is misleading because it implies voluntary inclusion in the USSR, whereas Lithuania's status was one of occupation and annexation.

🇱🇻 In 1991, Latvian DJ Mr. Tape (Modris Skaistkalns) performed as a guest performer at the DMC World DJ Championships in London. Lacking access to expensive, hard-to-find DJ turntables like Technics, he modified two Soviet reel-to-reel tape recorders instead. Later, Skaistkalns became a prominent Latvian dance music producer, founding the popular 90s Latvian pop/dance group "100. Debija" and going on to produce various well-known Latvian artists.
