Little Rock, Arkansas — An Arkansas State Police Trooper initiated a traffic stop with two other troopers. The vehicle was known to be driven by 42-year-old Christophe Monroe, who was already wanted for drug traffic charges. Police put out a warrant for his arrest for evading in a motor vehicle. Police attempted to box him in, bur failed and the chase was on. At one point early in the interaction an attempt was made to PIT the vehicle but ends up failing and sliding into a concrete barrier instead. Despite that failure to stop the vehicle, the police continue to chase Monroe as speeds climb. Monroe then turns around and makes it only a few blocks before being hit from behind by police, which causes him to roll his truck. The GMC eventually hits a brick wall and comes to a stop on its wheels. Because of how forceful the crash is, the police car itself almost flips. Later, Monroe is removed from the car by police who had surrounded it. Police found 64 grams of ecstasy, 100 grams of meth, 436 grams of cocaine, 89 grams of fentanyl pills, 182 grams of marijuana, 12 grams of heroin, and 46 grams of Xanax.

Albuquerque, New Mexico — Police received a call from an employee at a gas station who said a vehicle had been parked at the gas pump for several hours. The caller said the vehicle was not running, and she could barely see the driver because of the dark, tinted windows. She asked for officers to check on the driver. Officers arrived and ran the license plate and determined the registered owner of the car was Keshawn Thomas. Officers discovered the driver, later confirmed to be Thomas, was asleep in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Officers noticed alcohol, including an open container, inside the vehicle. They determined that since the vehicle was not running, they did not have charges for drunk driving. Officers decided they would tell Thomas he needed to have someone come and pick up the car. They woke Thomas and asked him to exit the vehicle and take a seat. They told Thomas not to start the car and told him he was not in trouble. Thomas exited the vehicle but declined to sit down. An officer asked Thomas what he was doing with open containers in the car and pointed out he was drunk, and had been passed out for several hours. Officers later told investigators that they detected signs of intoxication during the encounter. An officer told him he should not be driving drunk because he could hurt himself or others. Thomas and officers argued with each other, and as the conversation became more heated, an additional officer was requested for assistance. Thomas sat in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with the door open and appeared to be searching the interior of the car. Officers directed him to get his phone and exit the vehicle. After about 30 second, one of the officers called out that Thomas had a gun. All three officers fired their handguns, striking Thomas. He died at the scene.

Houston, Texas — Body cam and doorbell video of an officer-involved shooting in which a suspect ran over a deputy. Officers requested assistance in pursuit of a stolen black Volkswagen Atlas SUV as it traveled the wrong way. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect, 39-year-old Omar Hernandez Lazano, ignored all signals to stop and proceeded to lead deputy constables on a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, the deputies requested assistance. Several patrol units assisted in the vehicle pursuit, which lasted approximately 20 minutes. During the pursuit, Lazano pulled into the front yard of a home and quickly backed the vehicle into the driveway. The primary patrol unit, a Precinct 1 Constable Sergeant, blocked the driveway with his vehicle so Lazano could not pull back into the roadway and continue to flee in the vehicle. At that point, Lazano put the vehicle in reverse and, at a high rate of speed, crashed into the home with such force that the back half of the vehicle was inside the home. Numerous deputies began to converge on the vehicle. As they did so, Lazano drove the vehicle forward at a high rate of speed and ran directly over a deputy and dragged him approximately 20 feet until Lazano struck the marked constable vehicle that blocked his path. At that time, five deputies and one officer discharged their duty weapons, striking Lazano as he was in the driver’s seat of the crashed vehicle. Paramedics pronounced Lazano deceased. The injured deputy was transported to the hospital in critical, but stable condition, and recovered. During the shooting, one sergeant was struck in the left leg by a ricocheted bullet. Paramedics treated the sergeant at the scene.

Initial reports indicated the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Asante Taaj Omar Miller was inside the residence with a firearm, prompting a resident to contact the police. When officers arrived, Miller fled the scene. Officers located Miller nearby, who was armed. Officers gave Miller multiple verbal commands to drop his firearm. Miller refused to put his firearm down, which resulted in officers discharging their firearms. Miller attempted to elude officers by forcing entry into another residence. While searching the residence, officers encountered Miller hiding in a room, which resulted in additional shots being fired. Miller died approximately five hours after the standoff began.

A teenager in Wisconsin was handcuffed and detained by local police while headed home from church with his grandmother after passerby told cops he was robbing her. Akil Carter, 18, was detained for six minutes after his grandmother’s blue Lexus was pulled over by officers. An officer on patrol had been flagged down by a black couple who claimed two black men had just robbed a white woman, and were sitting in the back of a blue Lexus. Zalewski said the couple pointed out the car, which was then pulled over by an officer in a “non-approach traffic stop.” He added that the citizen who reported the incident did not stick around to give a formal statement as requested by officers. Video footage of the incident shows police pulling over the Lexus and demanding Carter exit with his hands up. He does, and eventually begins walking backward to where the patrol vehicle is located. After the officer asks his grandmother if everything is OK, she informs them that Carter is her grandson and that they’re headed back to her house from church. “I’m guessing what this sounds like is a really big misunderstanding. I’m not exactly quite sure what’s going on,” the officer tells him as Carter explains that the car’s driver is a friend of his grandmother, and his grandma is the front seat passenger. He is eventually allowed to leave the vehicle.
