With the Wolves getting knocked out by Oklahoma City and San Antonio these last two seasons, asked Naz Reid about what they need to do to be able to catch those teams. "Probably just the moodiness. You look at both of those teams and they're playing for one another, they're excited to be on the floor with one another, they're a team where they're selfless... I think we have more than enough talent... But just being less moody. I think that's just the name of the game for us, just being less moody and more selfless."

Asked Rudy Gobert what surprised him about Victor Wembanyama when they were teammates during the Olympics. "A few weeks ago he asked me what kind of filter I had in my house for water. It just tells you how his mind is. I try to talk to the young guys here about the food they eat and stuff like that. But I don't get those type of questions." Ant hasn't asked you about water filters? "Never. Not yet. I pray for that day."

Here's Chris Finch when asked about Micah Nori's contract in Portland being for just one guaranteed season. "The first thing I would like to say about that is I thought it was a shame that a lot of the story about Micah's great opportunity was overshadowed by the nature of the deal that he signed. That's a personal decision. That's a business decision. That's between him the team and the agent...." "I just know this: There's 30 of these jobs. They're hard to get...." Chris Finch said he thinks it's a joke that Rudy Gobert was not even named as a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year this season. Gobert was asked after the game if that snub gave him more juice in tonight's game. "No extra juice. I know who I am. Not the first time I get disrespected, probably not the last. I'm gonna keep being myself. If they wanna disrespect greatness, take it for granted, whatever, sooner or later they'll realize the impact."

Here's Tim Connelly when asked about the belief Anthony Edwards has in where the team is going. "I think he's super, super excited. There's been countless things we could have done. Our roster is pretty well thought of league-wide. When you go to your leaders like Ant and you say, 'it takes get this to get that' and the conviction he has in our guys is evident when you say, 'no, we're not trading this guy'."

Pretty much the entirety of Anthony Edwards's postgame media was him talking about his frustration with the way teams are putting two on him, taking away his opportunities to be a scorer and forcing him to get off the ball. "It's not how I want to play, of course. I'm only 23, I don't wanna just be passing the ball all night... But the way they're guarding me, I think I have to." How hard is it to stay engaged when they do that? "Super hard, super hard, super hard, super hard. Because I'm wired to score the ball."

If the Wolves were able to have a cap space team (maybe Brooklyn or Chicago) absorb Julius Randle's contract next season ($33M), that would open up three interesting roster building tools I want to highlight. I think this is relevant because the Wolves front office has a history of kind of stringing together transactions -- even over the course of multiple transaction windows (offseason and trade deadline). The Randle trade would be Randle + draft compensation for say Brooklyn to absorb the contract - maybe: Randle + No. 28 for a future 2nd (Adjust compensation as you see fit. Not the point of this exercise. Obviously if this would cost a bunch, they wouldn't do it. Or maybe they'd have to move to using Gobert's salary as the salary moved into another team's cap space.) Shedding Randle's salary would drop the Wolves well below the *1st* apron (about $52M). And while beneath the 1st apron, the Wolves would open up the ability to three additional roster building tools for spending that $52M... (If Ayo Dosunmu were to sign for $17M, that would be $35M in room below the 1st apron. And need to make sure to get the roster to 14 players.) 1. The non-taxpayer midlevel exception ($15M) - The "big MLE" is a $15M gift card for teams to spend above the salary cap but below the 1st apron. So if the Wolves were to use this, they would be hard-capped at the 1st apron ($13M below 2nd apron). If a team is over the 1st apron, they only have access to the taxpayer or "mini MLE", which is $6M next season - Could go out and sign a free agent for up to $15M in starting salary - Could also use this $15M as a trade exception and trade for a player who makes up to $15M 2. The trade exception generated in the Mike Conley salary dump trade to Chicago ($10.77M) - A trade exception allows a team to trade for a player without sending back matching salary for up to the amount of the trade exception - So with access to this trade exception, the Wolves could trade for a player making up to $10.77M - Using a trade exception also hard caps a team at the 1st apron ($13M below 2nd apron) 3. Making a Randle trade to a team who absorbs his contract into cap space would also create another trade exception (up to $33M) - The size of that trade exception would be Randle's $33M, minus whatever the Wolves took back in the trade - Might not need that for spending this summer. But doesn't expire for 365 days. The downside of working below the 1st apron as opposed to the 2nd apron is it restricts overall spending power by $13M -- because that's the gap between the two aprons.

Chris Finch said after Game 5 that Terrence Shannon Jr.'s minutes were limited in Game 5 due to gameplan mistakes. Finch was asked at practice today how he goes about helping Shannon clean that up. "I don't clean that up. He cleans it up. It starts with gotta be ready, he's gotta be engaged, he's gotta be fully committed to that side of the ball... The only way I can clean him up is to sit him on the bench, right? That's the only way I can clean it up. He knows what we need from him right now. So he's gotta be ready, and he's gotta be ready to execute defensively. There's no reason that he shouldn't be a good defender with his body type, with his athleticism, and he's a pretty smart player."

Denver was sending a second defender at Anthony Edwards when he crossed court in today's game. Asked Ant, who used to be really frustrated by that look, about playing through that type of aggressive coverage. "I'm not mad at all because, at the end of the day, my 4 is better than they 3. We're playing 4 on 3."

A very excited Matt Lloyd on what sort of development he's seen from the Wolves' 2025 1st round draft pick Joan Beringer. "Oh boy, here we go... His progression since he got here -- first off, he learned english, so that tends to help a little bit -- and secondly, he's put the work in to elicit a positive outcome because that's who he is."

Here's Ayo Dosunmu talking about what he's reading in pick and roll coverage and why he's taking more midrange shots in Minnesota after those were prohibited in Chicago. "In Chicago, midrange shots was really prohibited. It was 3s and layups, no midrange shots unless it's the end of the shot clock. Here, we got Rudy, he's setting big screens. So if you can set up pick and roll, you come off Rudy, you open." Dosunmu took 4 "long" midrange shots in 45 games in Chicago this season before being traded to Minnesota. And he's taken 12 in 15 games for the Wolves. Dosunmu has also nearly doubled the frequency in which he's taking shots from floater range. Dosunmu took 86% of his shots in Chicago at the rim or from 3. In Minnesota, he's becoming a three-level scorer. And his eFG% has stayed almost exactly the same.

When asked about Victor Wembanyama's 12 blocks in Game 1, Chris Finch said that at least 4 of the 12 were goaltends, and that it was "alarming" that Wembanyama wasn't called for a single goaltend. "When we looked at em, at least four of them were goaltending... To me, it's a little alarming that none of them were called. Here's a generational shot blocker, who is 7'6", who goes after everything, and there's no heightened awareness that these blocks could be goaltends... So let's just say there were four, that's eight points. You know the value of eight points in an NBA game? It's massive. That's also 33% of his blocks were goaltending uncalled. If I were to give you a 33% raise, you'd like that, right?"

Anthony Edwards said the Wolves came out cool in Game 2 and got blown out because of that. "I told the guys after the first game, the natural tendency for teams that steal the first game, the away team, they get blown out Game 2. So we can't come out cool. And we came out cool. And what happened? We got blew out. My mama used to tell me, 'a hard head make a soft ass'."

Here's Chris Finch on the 65-game rule for end of season awards. "For me, it might be simple: If you're worthy of the award and you haven't played 65 games, you should still get the award, but maybe you don't get the trigger to the money that goes with the award. I think that's one of the things that's not talked about. Some of these awards are gonna go to players -- not to say that they're not necessarily deserving -- but they're gonna get these awards and they're gonna get the financial bonus that comes with these awards and maybe they're not quite of the standard that would normally demand that... I'm all for the rule. It has to exist. We have to protect the fans. But I also feel like we gotta be smart enough to figure this out... To me, the money piece seems to be the obvious trigger."
