Background if you don’t know: the large office-to-resi conversion in the old Pfizer building on 42nd had major structural deterioration that quickly manifested sometime this morning, and the surrounding blocks are closed to traffic. A few buildings around it have been evacuated. I’m currently looking at the building down the block (the blue-gray one to the right of the brown one in the photo). There are small but noticeable crowds on both sides of Third Avenue just watching, and people are clearly pausing on their way to wherever to take pictures and video (myself included). It reminds me of how Midwesterners go out on the porch to watch a thunderstorm or a tornado. We just need to see it.
