CHAGOS SURRENDER UPDATE The House of Lords has condemned the Treaty in the strongest possible language. The government can still push ahead, but it has been asked to think again. There will now be ping-pong over the amendments that Starmer regards as incompatible with what he has signed. Once again, the lack of enthusiasm from the Labour benches is striking. One distinguished Labour peer, with a background in defence, defied his whip to vote with us. Keir Starmer, Richard Hermer and the Doughty Street/Matrix Chambers clique can still push ahead, but it is clear that they have no support and no arguments. Now is a good moment to lobby your MP in advance of the ping-pong.
