Happy heavenly birthday Sylvester! Making an unsung imprint on disco music’s early electronic sound with “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” the openly gay artist cultivated the euphoria of the discotheque world and was a vanguard of 1970s queer and drag culture. “Stormy Weather” taken from Sylvester’s album of jazz standards, Private Recordings, recorded by pianist Peter Mintun, on an August afternoon in 1970. The release documents the earliest known recordings from one of disco’s greatest & most pioneering LGBTQ artists, stripped down in all his vocal glory.

Remembering Sylvester (September 6, 1947 – December 16, 1988) “With the furore of the heady disco days behind him, he said he wouldn’t have changed a thing. But admitted his priorities had now changed. “At the time of “Mighty Real” I didn’t want to sing disco & I had no choice…

Your music forever changed my life listening to That Total Age on cassette driving to dance at the goth clubs with industrial rooms your music gave birth to. Always a fierce supporter of our label and will never forget the last time I saw you wearing our Sylvester t-shirt 💗 Sending our deepest sympathies to your family and loved ones and fans around the world 😢

NERVOUS GENDER Miscarriage (Live at Target, 1980) Nervous Gender emerged from Los Angeles in 1978 as one of the most innovative and confrontational acts of the early American Punk underground. Founded by Phranc, Gerardo Velazquez, Edward Stapleton, and Michael Ochoa, the band rejected the guitar-driven conventions of Punk and instead built its sound around distorted synthesizers, primitive electronics, noise, and performance art, helping to lay the foundation for what would later become known as SynthPunk, Industrial Noise, or whatever genre term harnesses the chaos and energy. Their performances were provocative, chaotic, and often intentionally unsettling, exploring themes of sexuality, identity, alienation, and social transgression. Combining abrasive electronics with an uncompromising artistic vision, Nervous Gender stood at the forefront of the emerging intersection between Punk, Industrial, and experimental electronic music while championing the Queer music underground.

Euroshima was the ultimate 80s goth club soundtrack that lingered in obscurity until our reissue, back in stock now! 🦇 “Echoing the stylized pains of early ‘80s Northern England via Argentina, ‘Gala’ brings its own sexiness to the darkwave goth sound thanks to Wanda’s reverberating vox and a below-the-belt drive to guide the flounce and coquettish mating rituals of all-black clad dancers from Batley to Buenos Aires.” Boomkat.com
