I’m halfway through all the HC interviews from American Conference media days. Here are my quick notes: - Memphis HC Charles Huff makes national headlines every time he takes the podium - UTSA HC Jeff Traylor seems more calm overhaul. I think his comments about OC Rick Bowie are cool because he’s “getting back” to running the kind of offense that suits his philosophy. - USF HC Brian Hartline has an intensity about him that will be good for a successful team. If they’re not successful though, his shtick could go in the other direction. - Rice HC Scott Abell being so committed to his formula is just cool to see. If they’re get Jacurri Brown rolling, they could be a legit threat and just an annoying team to play. - ECU HC Blake Harrell was cool to hear his perspective on the new coordinators and how he’s excited to shake things up. They have a lot of position battles to sort through in camp. - Tulsa HC Tre Lamb impressed/surprised me the most. Really good energy, coming into his own as a HC and has a sneaky confidence his team will make legit noise this year.

Incredible messaging from Nevada’s HC Jeff Choate. This is the sell for G5 programs in this day and age. Develop, get great coaching and go get a big bag down the road. That could be later in the P4 or you’ll get enough visibility to attract pro teams. Thoughts?

The on-campus vs off-campus stadium conversation continues in the American Conference. FAU AD Brian White explained how having control of their stadium gives the Owls more room to generate revenue. Then he dropped some breaking news: FAU is working on a pregame concert series at the stadium this season (sponsored by Publix), creating another revenue opportunity connected to football game days. "Paradise. Tailgate. Festival type vibe". That’s a much different setup than trying to build around a stadium you’re renting.

I like the fiery passion shown by UTSA baseball coach Pat Hallmark, especially against a rival school. That’s the kind of thing that makes supporters and players like him even more. This is SPORT, it’s better when there’s edge and dislike between opponents. UTSA is looking to secure another American Conference banner, they’re going to get a boost from something like this. The public statements made by AD Lisa Campos afterwards were necessary and is a formality. Same with his comments as well. This is fun….. 😅

As I dive more into the American Conference, there are a few team's who can offer 7-figure deals to top players. (USF, Memphis, Tulane, & ECU) Here's ECU's AD saying they're not trying to get/retain players on a discount. Some have the money to hit the market with confidence.

The UTSA discussion on how AD Lisa Campos should handle the Hallmark situation is a good case to study regarding my AD visibility and fan connection post from yesterday. I didn’t think her public statement was a big deal but it appears majority of fans do. Here are my thoughts:

2 takeaways from yesterday NSD press conferences across the American: - Memphis HC Charles Huff came off as very charismatic & I liked his timeout usage strategy. - UTSA’s Jeff Traylor was on one yesterday. The “buy us a natty” and “ECU callout” was interesting though. 🤔

Here’s a clip of my discussion with USF CEO Rob Higgins on the future of revenue share for the South Florida Bulls. He also speaks on their goal to win NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS and how USF is “unapologetic” about their ambitions. Double down on “All gas, no brakes”
