I came to the Kentucky Derby to help grant a wish for a long time racing fan and got a chance to congratulate and shake hands with the Puerto Rican jockey who won the Derby, José Ortiz. He rode Golden Tempo to victory! He had a Puerto Rican flag with him and for those of you who don’t know, Puerto Rican people are the proudest people you’ll ever meet. And they will take that flag to the moon if they can. Also, Cherie DeVaux is the trainer who won! She trained Golden Tempo, the winning horse. With that win, she became the first female trainer ever to win the Kentucky Derby About the wish granted I’ll have more to say about that tomorrow and Monday on CBS Mornings

THREAD: A Missouri woman is wanted for questioning in connection to a fire that damaged, & in some areas destroyed, 4 businesses in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, a hot spot for tourists. Police believe the woman, Danielle Bertothy, is back in the U.S. after leaving the island following the fires. On the night of January 1st, a woman, believed to be Danielle, was seen on video, at Bar Marea. She appeared, to staff, to be intoxicated. After serving her two shots, they say they told her they would serve her no more. An argument took place shortly thereafter. Staff called police. According to the bar’s owner police escorted the woman to her AirBnb, which is across the street from the bar. The woman returned a short time later and got into another argument, according to the bar’s owner, who again called the police, and who again took the woman back to her AirBnb. The police stayed at the restaurant until it closed. Then, everyone went home. “Two hours later we got a call that everything was on fire,” the bar’s owner told me. There is surveillance video that shows a woman walking by one of the establishments with what appears to be a red plastic gasoline can. ** The owner of the Airbnb told me that due to the island wide blackout on December 31, a generator and a red gasoline plastic can (filed with extra fuel) were delivered to the home so that the Airbnb guest would be able to have power.*** The owner of the AirBnb rental identified Danielle Bertothy as being the woman who rented the home, checking in December 30. She was expected to check out January 11th. According to the AirBnb homes owner, Danielle left the AirBnb around 5am on January 2nd, roughly 5 hours after the fire was started. I tried to reach her by cell but got a voicemail. A person named Danielle Bertothy works for HLK, a brand building agency in Saint Louis, Missouri. The agency released this statement: “we were shocked to learn about the events in Puerto Rico. We have not been contacted by law-enforcement in either Puerto Rico or Missouri, but we are ready to cooperate in their investigation if asked. After learning about this, we chose to place the named individual on suspension immediately pending further information. We are outraged by the senseless act and hope the authorities can address it in a timely fashion.” Four businesses suffered major damage in the fire: They are: Luichy’s Seaside Hotel, Bar Marea, Marinera, & Artesania Juavia. I found a number, which according to available records, is linked to Danielle. It’s not. The person who currently is the owner of that they have been flooded with calls and voicemails and even received death threats directed at Danielle.

She lost her job to protect a baby who wasn’t hers. Two years later — a courthouse surprise changes everything. This is the story of Roberta Bell — a former correctional officer who did the unthinkable for a newborn. She risked it all to keep him safe. What happened this week? No one saw coming — not even her. Tonight, the kind of reunion that reminds you: the right thing isn’t always the easy thing… but it’s always worth it. Coming up — Tomorrow, only CBS Mornings around 8:30am.

Here’s the police body cam video showing what happened when a Hertz worker at the New Orleans airport called police because a Puerto Rican man kept insisting that his drivers license was valid. The Hertz worker denied the man his pre paid rental car because he couldn’t present his passport. The Hertz worker thought Puerto Rico was another country and so she insisted the man needed to show a passport. He didn’t. He is a U.S. citizen as are all Puerto Ricans. This body cam video was first obtained by FOX 8 New Orleans. You can judge for yourself the unidentified Kenner PD officers demeanor / behavior. Marchand found it to be extremely rude and demeaning. As for the Hertz worker, she seen on video saying to the customer, Humberto Marchand: “Because you recorded as you’re not gonna be able to rent from Hertz ever!” That’s not true. Hertz has already apologized to Mr. Marchand publicly and stated that the employees were wrong and will be retained. It is clear that neither the officer, nor the Hertz employee, know that Marchand is right: his driver’s license is as valid as any other license issued in any other state. He didn’t need to show a passport to anyone. The officer could’ve provided clarity to the situation based on the fact that Puerto Rico is not a foreign country. He did not or was unaware of that fact. In my initial report, I stated that Marchand heard the officer say that he would call border authorities. The body cam video does not show that. As FOX 8 New Orleans’s Andrés Fuentes reported, the officer said: “Do not come back up here and cause any more disturbances.” In the body camera video, Marchand asks, “You’re going to call what? Border services?”
