In his Leone bio, Frayling notes that Shane was a big influence on Yojimbo & A Fistful of Dollars. Eastwood did his own limp remake with Pale Rider. So you'd think they'd recall that the most famous scene of violence in Shane is a gun firing with the victim in the same frame...

The Hateful 8 is based on Fair Game, a 1960 ep of The Rebel. A bounty hunter stuck at a stagecoach stop is poisoned in order to rescue his female prisoner & everyone is a suspect, etc. Tarantino borrows the concept, reworks dialogue & more. This vid is rightly a long, slow burn

When A Fistful of Dollars aired on ABC in the 70s, the network added a 4 minute prologue in an attempt to justify the film's cynical tone & amoral violence. The prologue was directed by Monte Hellman & stars Harry Dean Stanton:

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford has a lot of very similar dialogue to a 1986 TV movie starring Kris Kristofferson & Johnny Cash called The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James. Did the filmmakers really rip off a mediocre TV movie? (1/3)

Ennio Morricone's theme for A Fistful of Dollars was based on the arrangement he had recently done of Woody Guthrie's Pastures of Plenty for American folk singer Peter Tevis. Listen to Guthrie's original, Tevis' cover & the film's title theme "Titoli" 👇

Here's a young Sam Peckinpah playing a bit part as a bank teller opposite Joel McCrea in Jacques Tourneur's Wichita (1955). I think you'll agree that Peckinpah's performance is nuanced & riveting, just like his films

The Wild Bunch is considered one of the first films to put squibs on both sides of an actor's body to replicate entrance/exit wounds. Sam Peckinpah had previously shown the devastating effects of a bullet tearing through a body in this scene from his TV show The Westerner:
