These are youths in Katsina demanding blood because someone was accused of blasphemy. They never filled the streets over the bandits terrorizing their communities, the collapsing economy, or the hardship destroying their future. But they were quick to mobilize because they believe a 7th-century illiterate surrounded by controversy must never be criticized. That is what religious indoctrination does. It convinces people to defend the reputation of a long-dead religious figure while ignoring the real problems ruining their own lives.
