Happy first birthday to our lion cubs Olive, Poppy, Alpine Lily and Guion! 🎂🦁 The birthday celebration looked a little different last week. With one of our cubs, Olive, healing from a toe injury, the cubs stayed together behind the scenes. But that didn’t stop the party! They enjoyed special birthday enrichment and meat popsicles while our four magnificent adult males Kito, Usiku, Bahati, and Jasiri showed up for a special lion demonstration in honor of the occasion. And let's be honest, the first birthday is always really about the parents, right? 👀 🦁 Over the past year these cubs have grown from tiny, wobbly little ones into thriving adolescents, naturally finding independence from mom Araali and hitting every milestone. Dusty is a common ostrich with a huge personality. He loves to dance, interact with guests, and feed alongside Opal and Topaz the Grevy’s zebras. Ostriches are the largest birds on Earth and the fastest two-legged runners (up to 40 mph!). Dusty uses his wings to help turn while running, and to show off his moves. Catch him near the giraffe platform playing with shiny objects, strutting around his habitat, or showing off his dance moves.

Our baby bighorn sheep has been named Annie! Rescued from a wild herd in Nebraska by Nebraska Game and Parks + temporarily cared for by Omaha's Zoo, little Annie is settling in nicely to her new home at DZCA. You can bet your bottom dollar that we're happy to provide her a forever home! ❤️
