The hardest lesson NFL MVP Steve Young ever had to learn. "Fear-based thinking is a liar. I was afraid of failure, so much so that I paid this price so that I could have success. I learned as an older person, that's a fallacy. That's fraudulent." "I'm not going to pay for success with my worry and fretting. Man, fame is a thief. Fear-based thinking is a thief. There's a lot of thieves in life."

Steve Young has been in rooms with presidents, Hall of Famers, and billionaires for four decades. His most admired list looks nothing like a résumé. "To me, the superheroes are the ones that have defied the natural state. The natural state is seeking credit. The natural state is selfishness. When super famous people are authentic in those little brief moments, that's a superhero." "Magic Johnson's a superhero. Arnold Palmer's a superhero."

Today I’m launching a new weekly interview series called Divot (Divot), featuring people making a mark on the world. Steve Jobs said, “We're here to put a dent in the universe.” A divot is a symbol of your impact. Episode 1 is with Sequoia Capital's doug leone. Full episodes will be posted each Wednesday on X. Doug talks about his multi-decade investor career in Silicon Valley as well as overcoming personal trauma, finding purpose, and American optimism. Over the past decade I've done +100 interviews at Startup Grind and felt it's time for me to get back in learning mode. Each Wednesday I'll interview some of the best people in business, tech, sports, and entertainment. Hope you get something from it too.
