On the Greek 🇬🇷 island of Naxos, a group of pro-Israeli tourists at a taverna tried to rip down a poster with the Palestinian 🇵🇸 flag that read “Stop the genocide.” When confronted they refused to pay their bill and left. The owner followed after them and you can see what was then said in the video.

Greeks are often labeled simply as European because modern Greece sits within Europe, but that doesn’t fully capture who Greeks are historically or culturally. For most of history, Greek populations existed across the entire Aegean world, including western Anatolia and the eastern Mediterranean, not just within today’s borders. That long presence created a people shaped by both southern European and western Asian influences through continuous contact, migration, and exchange. Because of this, Greeks are best understood as an Eastern Mediterranean people. The term reflects the reality that Greek identity developed at the crossroads of Europe and Western Asia, combining elements of both rather than fitting neatly into a single continental category.
