On Mahalaya, the day that marks the commencement of Durga Puja, the essence of every Bengali’s existence, we are here on the streets for Abhaya. Because she is not here this Mahalaya. Her parents are alone this Durga Puja. Grieving their daughter. Imagine their restlessness. Every day. Waiting for justice. We want justice for her. Faculty of RG Kar Medical College mass resigns to ensure the safety of protesting doctors on indefinite hunger strike. If this doesn’t move you, nothing will. Safety in the workplace is basic. If you can’t ensure that, you have no right to demand services from doctors. There is no guarantee that there won’t be another Abhaya. Would you want your children to work in an environment like that? Toiling away with no personal security?
