A German-born man of Turkish descent (45) has been arrested after a mass shooting at a mother-and-child refuge in Stade, Lower Saxony, Germany, that left six people dead and two injured. The suspect, driving a tuned Mercedes-AMG, was chased by police along the B73 and stopped with shots fired. The suspect is a 45-year-old man of Turkish descent who was born in Germany. A custody dispute may have served as the alleged perpetrator's motive. At the time of the incident, his three-year-old daughter was at the facility with her mother. Neither the child nor the woman is among the victims, Kathrin Schuol of the Lüneburg police department stated at a press conference on Monday evening. The weapon used in the crime was seized by the police. The suspect resides near Hanover. He was known to the police, though not previously recorded as violent. He did not have a permit to carry a weapon; it is not known how he obtained it.
