I am grateful to Jens Stoltenberg for leading the way in supporting Ukraine and for recognising Ukraine’s successes on the battlefield and in the Black Sea. We both agree that Euro-Atlantic defense industries need to work as one system in order to both ramp up supplies to Ukraine and strengthen NATO allies. This priority resonates well with them. We discussed specific steps to create such an integrated system. NATO has a crucial coordinating role in bringing all allies and defense companies together.

I reiterated Ukraine’s support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, as well as initiatives to develop regional cooperation in the space between the Caspian and Black Seas.

We also discussed preparations for the international conference ‘Restoring Justice for Ukraine’, which Ukraine, the Netherlands, and the European Commission will co-host in The Hague on April 2nd, 2024. I also emphasized the urgent need to step up joint efforts to free Ukrainian civilian detainees held in Russian captivity.

On this day in 1939, two allies—Hitler's Third Reich and Stalin's USSR—signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, paving the way for WWII. Putin's Russia works hard to conceal this inconvenient fact, which undermines its propaganda and historical myths. But the truth is that the twin totalitarian regimes of Hitler's Reich and Stalin's Soviet Union committed unspeakable atrocities in the twentieth century. The only difference is that the Third Reich was defeated and its crimes were condemned, whereas Soviet crimes were never properly prosecuted. This is especially evident in Russia, where the cult of Stalinism goes hand in hand with Russia's current fascist ideology and aggression against Ukraine. I emphasized that Ukraine needs a just and lasting peace, not just an illusion of peace, and I appreciate that this position was reciprocated.
