BREAKING: In Ambassador Chifamba’s farewell speech to Convention on Wetlands Standing Committee (which he has been is chairing while Zimbabwe holds the Presidency) he made two very important remarks that underscore Zimbabwe’s commitment to protecting wetlands. POSITIVE UPDATE ON MONAVALE WETLAND 🌅🎉🍾 (live from Africa Unity Square) We had a very productive meeting this afternoon with Permanent Secretary Eng. Tafadzwa Muguti who has assured us that Monavale Wetland #SaveMonavaleVlei Ramsar Site (and ALL wetlands) MUST be protected! He said ALL developments (including the one by Parliament of Zimbabwe) must stop and be immediately investigated. Here’s a case study from the 2023 election to illustrate how delimitation can unfairly influence the outcome of Parliamentary elections… Bikita East ➡️ 22k registered voterr Harare East ➡️ 33k registered voters There was almost 11k difference between the two. Yet both constituencies elect 1 MP. Now if you extrapolate that across the entire country, you can see why ZANU PF got more seats in Parliament than their share of votes in the election. And now they want to make delimitation EVEN LESS independent with #CAB3. #NoToCAB3 #ZimSaysNO

#SaveOurVlei Here’s how you send a message from the sky to our Members of Parliament of Zimbabwe who want to build their houses on Monavale Wetland #SaveMonavaleVlei - one of Zimbabwe’s only 7 Wetlands of International Importance protected under the Convention on Wetlands! And this is happening while Zimbabwe is the President of the Ramsar Convention of Wetlands! 😳 Tomorrow, 5th May 2026, in Switzerland, the delegation from Zimbabwe will be chairing the Standing Committee meeting of the Ramsar Convention to discuss how to protect wetlands globally. Yet back home, our wetlands on public lands are being privatized and allocated to MPs to construct their homes. Wetlands are for all of us! We depend on them for clean water, green space, flood prevention and so much more.
