Before I share what he said: Honestly, elsewhere, an Inspector General of Police travels with a convoy of lead cars, more than 10 escort vehicles, over 20 VIP protection personnel, and a highly controlled environment. In Rwanda, he stands quietly next to his people. No entourage. No protocol. Just leadership among the people, doing community work like everyone else. President Paul Kagame has set a very good example. He said this while officiating at the pass-out of the 7th intake of Police Officer Cadets at the Police Training School in Gishari: “Rwandans deserve development, not hunger, bad governance and insecurity. Let us continue to work to deliver development to our people. Every one of us must play their part. The police have contributed to bringing peace beyond our borders with professionalism. But it should start here. Rwandans must be able to take their security and safety for granted. You have been trained to ensure that this is the case.” He continued: “The toughest part begins now. This is the time to show your commitment and fulfill the expectations of the Rwandan people through exemplary service.”
