How dare you send me a notice Johnson & Johnson Health Equity Kenvue that I am maligning the names of ORSL and ERZL for my own commercial benefits and for increasing the number of followers for my page, and that you will drag me to the court?! My stance is predated and vindicated by the FSSAI order of October 14th and 15th. Delhi High Court clearly refused to give a stay. Saying ERZL is the new form of ORSL is a clear violation of the ban order and is misleading those people who still believe ORSL is ORS. Sir, Narendra Modi and jp nadda vijay rajmohan Dr. Himanshu Bansal, it's a national shame that FSSAI has consented to the request by JNTL(the Indian subsidiary of Kenvue which is a spin off of Johnson and Johnson) for a stay order to dispose of it's stock of high sugar ORSL! Sir, not only now, in future also, except WHO recommended formula ORS, no sachet or tetrapack should be allowed in the pharmacies(including online), hospitals, and schools, as far as rehydrating medicines are concerned. ORS should never be allowed to be used on the labels except for WHO Recommended Formula ORS even if these liquids are being sold in the supermarkets and quick commerce platforms only! Trusting that you will ensure the October 15th order is implemented with urgency!

So, basically children need to die for the drug regulatory authority to wake up! CDSCO passed the buck to the FSSAI saying it didn't give permission for ORSL or RebalanzVitORS or ORSFIT. So,only if the deaths of children raise a national uproar, then they will act upon the companies labelling their drinks as ORS, electroyte drinks, rehydrate drinks etc etc and selling them in the pharmacies, schools, and hospital. That is not going to happen, because the cause of death will go down as death due to diarrhoea and dehydration, but not death due to worsening of diarrhoea because of the high sugar! Dear doctors(especially paediatricians), when you document death due to diarrhoea, please take thorough history about the liquids given by the parent to the child, and please share the information with me if any of these high sugar drinks turn out to be the culprits! Every year, more than one lakh children die due to diarrhoea, in India. ORS(WHO RECOMMENDED FORMULA) is a life saver. It's very disheartening and angering to see 1. FSSAI giving permission to eRZL (looking exactly same as the high sugar ORSL), inspite of the harm caused to children for 2 decades, and inspite of us literally begging to not do it. 2. Kenvue, your Indian subsidiary seems to be the most unethical company here. It doesn't seem to care for the lives of our Indian children! eRZL is being handed as ORS now. It's a shame! 3. The president of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), I hv literally begged u to ask Kenvue to rebrand in such a way that the new branding doesn't resemble the erstwhile high sugar ORSL, and instead you release a position paper influenced by Kenvue! The children of India vs Kenvue, and u chose Kenvue. Dear citizens of India, history is repeating! I hv taken up this issue legally, but that's going to take years, as u all know. It's time that u stand up for the children of India once again, and ensure history doesn't repeat! Who is to blame? The authorities for giving permission and allowing OTC sale, or the pharmacist handing them out without the prescription, or the parent? Victim is the baby, finally! If you ask me, if a medicine is not to be given to some one below 4 years of age, permission should not be given in the first place for these drops. Cough can be because of a lot of congestion,bronchospasm, bronchiolitis, acid reflux, allergy or infection. It can be a habit cough, or due to inflammation of the throat or stress related. Address the underlying cause. Syrups available in India in the name of cough syrups contain either decongestants like phenylephrine (whose side effects are mostly due to overdosing or wrong dosing - increase in heart rate, increase in blood pressure, and arrhythmias), or anti allergy medications like chlorpheniramine and cetirizine (overdosing can cause sedation and respiratory depression- less with Levocetirizine, though), mucus breaking drugs like ambroxol and guaifenesin, bronchodilators like levosalbutamol and Terbutaline(overdosing can cause tremors, increased heart rate and arrhythmias) and cough suppressants like dextromethorphan and codeine(which can cause severe respiratory depression when overdosed). We should not suppress the cough, as it might even help in expelling the germs out. For every medicine there is a minimum age before which we can't give the medicine to the child, especially without the paediatricians's advice. For phenylephrine in India, it is now four years, though most guidelines say it is 2 years. For cetirizine, it is 6 months. In India the combination of Phenylephrine and Chlorpheniramine should not be used below 4 years of age. If a medicine is prescribed by a doctor, If the right dose is given by a mother for a right indication, problems usually don’t happen. The problem of overdosing happens when the parents go and buy over-the-counter medications, and give them randomly without knowing the doses. So, don’t buy the so called cough syrups on your own and decide to give them to the children. If they have a cough, paediatricians are there to address the underlying cause for cough and prescribe the treatment depending on the age group, symptoms, and the etiology. Stick to the doses, read expiry date. Doctors should write the prescriptions clearly, mention composition and tell the parents not to repeat the prescription, explain to them about dangers of wrong dosing, overdosing and repetition of prescription. First aid for cough mainly is compression with a warm cloth. In India many of them give steam directly. That is dangerous. If steam should be given, then the bathroom should be filled with the steam and the kid should be made to sit there.Don't give vicks,eucalyptus oil, Zindatilismath etc. In younger children they can cause seizures, and can worsen the cough and asthma symptoms. If the nose is blocked, put one to two drops of saline nose drops (from the pharmacies) in each nostril. If the cough is severe, the kid is vomiting or coughing continuously, consult the doctor. Drug regulators should avoid giving permission for drops and syrup with the same brand name, for unscientific combinations of medicines, for formulations with different components but the same brand name with a suffix or prefix. We need to have only a few standard brands or generic medicines with strong quality control. Form a panel of paediatricians for the same. Also, Terbutaline and Levosalbutamol shouldn't be part of the combinations. We have specific indications for these medicines. Safer route of administration for Levosalbutamol is using a nebulizer or MDI with or with out spacer, only if advised by the paediatrician when the child has bronchospasm. INFACT, AVOID COMBINATIONS! When people were threatening me over social media and my family was upset, some times, I felt a little bit scared, maybe. My sincere and earnest request to you all! Pls do write to the Supreme Court of India! Let there be a strong law to protect future generations aswell! Nothing except WHO recommended formula ORS and water should ever be available in the pharmacies, medical facilities, and schools! ORS/DRS/QRS etc should not be there on the labels of any drink ever even if it's being sold in the supermarkets/online commerce platforms unless it conforms to the WHO recommended formula ORS. It is so heartening to see the change that has come. In two thirds of the pharmacies, people were given the WHO recommended formula ORS when people asked for ORS(the sachets/tetrapacks). Remember that sachets are preferred to tetrapacks Use ORS only when needed. It is not to be given every day. Only for rehydration during diarrhoea, vomiting, heat injury(when you spend a lot of time in the sun), fever etc. Do not give if there is Kidney failure or non stop vomiting. Go to the emergency in that case. The contents of 4.1 to 4.4 grams sachets in 200ml water and those of 20.5 grams sachets in 1 litre water. Clean drinking water. Discard after 24 hours. It is also sad to see Electrochoice being handed out as ORS in the Apollo pharmacies and eRZL as ORS in some pharmacies. eRZL being marketed as the new form of ORSL is a gross violation of the FSSAI order. There is absolutely no need to panic at this point about the Nipah virus infection causing a pandemic pls! It is not going to cause a pandemic like COVID did, because it is not airborne. Wash fruits before eating. Do not drink raw date palm sap, especially if the palms are in areas where there are a lot of bats. The virus can stay alive upto 7 days at room temperature. In May 2018, FSSAI submitted it's first draft in the Parliament saying there would be a RED MARK on the FRONT OF THE LABEL if the pack contained food with high amounts of SALT/SUGAR/SATURATED FAT. In September 2022, because of the pressure from the food industry (inspite of resistance from the consumer organizations), FSSAI submitted another draft favoring the star rating system. In 2024, 3S and our health society filed a PIL in the Supreme Court saying that FSSAI should make FOPL warning mandatory. On 10th Feb 2026, Supreme Court directing FSSAI to consider implementing FOPL warning and to get back in 4 weeks. FSSAI asked for some more time. There was a stakeholders' meeting on the 19th of March 2026 where most of the people werefrom the food industry and a few were from the consumers. A couple of representatives from NAPi were there, including Dr. Arun Gupta MD FIAP (Ped) Anytime, the FSSAI will submit it's final plan now. We, Indians have to put such tremendous pressure on FSSAI that it won't have a choice but to go for FOPL warning that warns every innocent ignorant Indian as well, about the packed food being high in SALT/SUGAR/SATURATED FAT. It is time all the influemcers and all the people rise up to the occasion and let FSSAI know what we need, just like how we did when there was a stay order (when Kenvue asked for a stay citing that recalling its 180 crore stock would spoil the name it had built for two decades) on the FSSAI order of October 14th and 15th asking companies not to have ORS in the branding or on the label, and to not use the term ORS for marketing of beverages/foods. ORS is a drug. Only CDSCO can give permission/licence. Only WHO recommended formula ORS is allowed to have ORS on the label. Not just adults, even children are facing tremendous risk of obesity related complications with the food industry targeting them through various marketing strategies including celebrity endorsements. There is a limit to our patience! Delhi High Court has clearly ruled that tetrapacks/foods/beverages misbranded as ORS cannot be sold! Only WHO recommended formula ORS is allowed to have ORS on it's label! Inspite of the Delhi High Court's order, ORSL is being sold everywhere! I request child rights groups and human rights groups to take this up! These liquids worsen dehydration and diarrhoea! Diarrhoea kills! These liquids can land a person with Diabetes in Diabetic coma! Why is it so difficult to get ORS off the labels of drinks misleadingly labelled as ORS, inspite of the companies, the government, the people, the doctors, and everybody knowing that this misleading labelling can kill children and people. Waiting with palpitations for FSSAIs decision and the Delhi High Court's decision of 31st Oct 2025!
