Recent polls for '24 elections are showing an upward move for the ANC; now at 50.1%. As the ANC's campaign is gaining strength, by April '24 it will be close to 60%. There is no credible alternative to the ANC with a substantive agenda for change, it's only empty rhetoric🖤💚💛

Here, I completely disagree with this reductionist perspective of Mr Mbeki on geopolitics and the conduct of states. In this interview, he narrowly and in a very myopic way imagines a battle ring with SA and US as fighters to the dead end. The inherent dynamics in contemporary geopolitics are more complex than this simplistic articulation. SA is not interested in a fight with the US but is unapologetically in the fold of global anti-imperialist efforts that find expression in different platforms like BRICS+ to marginalise the imperialist agenda. The belly of imperialism is the US. The global anti-imperialist efforts are gaining significant momentum that threatens the post WWII configuration and spread of global balance of power, which was later punctuated by the collapse of the USSR. The beginning of the 21st century marked the incremental and gradual decline of the US's global influence. Hence, the nervousness that gave birth to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN (MAGA) policy. MAGA is an attempt to crudely and erratically reassert the US as an unrival global hegemon. With how contemporary global politics are shaped, this agenda is doomed, and it will definitely fail. The US and its fragmented West allies are the axis of imperialism, and the geopraphic location of the anti-imperialist agenda is mainly in the South. The South is not South Africa, but countries located in the Southern Hemisphere. Closely monitoring the development and the relentless anti-imperialist efforts in the South, on all fronts - economics, politics, technology , and diplomacy it is quite apparent that the US is confronted with a strategic dilemma and challenge unlike the bipolar period. Here, victory is certain for the anti-imperialist forces, which South Africa is unapologetically part of.

I fully agree with former President Thabo Mbeki that the problem of high levels of unemployment cannot be solely attributed to undocumented (illegal) immigrants; fortunately, there is no one who has made such a claim. That is not even a claim made by the leaders of the protest actions, if we closely and carefully listen to them. What they are claiming is that uncontrolled and illegal migration makes it difficult for South African job seekers. This claim is factually correct. I respectfully disagree with the former President that illegal migration has nothing to do with unemployment. It is a fact that undocumented immgrants are a source of cheap and unprotected labour, what is called unregulated employment. It is also a fact, that this source of employment directly results in labour market distortions and displacement of South African job seekers. It is also a fact that the most affected job seekers by the labour market displacement are the low-skilled and unskilled workers. Unemployed population in South Africa consists of a mix of skills; which can be broken down into three main categories. The first is HIGHLY SKILLED & GRADUATES UNEMPLOYMENT, this is unemployed graduates who struggle to find entry-level positions that require prior experience. The second is SEMI-SKILLED UNEMPLOYMENT, these are job seekers that have completed secondary education (matric) or specialised vocational training, but their qualifications often do not align with the specific technical trades or digital roles that employers are actively seeking. The third is LOW-SKILLED AND UNSKILLED UNEMPLOYMENT, which constitues a large portion of the unemployed workforce and has low levels of formal education, and are at a severe disadvantage in a modernising economy that increasingly requires advanced or technical capabilities. One does not have to be a rocket scientist to know that the low-skilled and un-skilled category of the unemployed is severely displaced by a labour market that is open to undocumented immigrants. I have elaborated on this matter in an article that I published on my social media platforms. To access that article, log in👇🏿

MARCH&MARCH IS NOT A COUNTER-REVOLUTION By Dr. Zamani Saul, Northern Cape ANC Provincial Chairperson. 08 July 2026. First, it is essential to acknowledge the politically astute and proactive manner in which the national government responded to the 30 June ultimatum for undocumented migrants to leave. What the government did was to reframe the protests of March&March into a vital grievance mechanism rather than a challenge to the legitimacy of the State. The government acknowledged that there is a slow pace in addressing the frustrations raised by March&March and, in the same vein, equally condemned any form of unlawful and violent activities directed to other people and property. The message was loud and clear that those participants in March&March programmes who embark on illegal and violent activities will be arrested. Conversely, the Arab leaders who were engulfed by the Arab Spring in North Africa and the Middle East chose to deploy delegitimising tactics when confronted with a similar situation as South Africa. When the Arab Spring of 2011 started, the political establishment accused the organisers of being “guided and influenced by the dirty hand of the West” with an “anti-Islamic agenda.” Instead of responding to the triggers of the uprising, they dismissed the popular dissent as foreign-funded subversion. This was followed by extensive investigations of bank accounts of the organisers and a securitisation process that ultimately led to violent crackdowns. So, what was labeled as foreign-funded subversion became a turning point for the Arab world. The negative labeling by the political establishment in Tunisia was based on a disastrous misunderstanding of the impact of social agency of the marginalised masses yearning for change. The whole Arab Spring started when a young man aged 26, Tayeb Mohamed Bouazizi, a fruit and vegetable street vendor in Tunisia, burned himself to death when local police confiscated his cart and humiliated him when he tried to get it back; that is when protests started and spread throughout Tunisia. MK Party is just an elaborate comedy of crisis. This makeshift boat will sink in no time. My views on the party are articulated in this article published on 25 May 2026 by News 24 👇🏿👇🏿👇🏿 ALL HAIL THE SUPREME HEAD! MK PARTY GIVES ZUMA FULL NORTH KOREAN TREATMENT By Dr. Zamani Saul, Northern Cape ANC Provincial Chairperson 25 May 2026 Serious “strategic reorganisation” is taking place in the MK Party with the new designation of the party leader as “Sovereign Head” accompanied by the confusing introduction of an MK Party Institute. For political parties, the establishment of institutes to boost internal capacity for ideological training, akin to the ANC’s OR Tambo School of Leadership, is normal. This is because progressive change in society is a function of disciplined progressive cadres, properly armed with revolutionary tools of analysis. The designation of the MK Party leader as a “Sovereign Head” is curious, triggering some serious questions with potentially dangerous answers. Remember, about twelve years ago, the country inconclusively engaged with some flimsy designation of a “commander in chief” for a party leader. For me, the designation of a Sovereign Head is not just empty rhetoric; it is a loaded concept with clear meaning and intent. For any rational and self-respecting organisation, its constitution is the sovereign law, and its highest conference is the sovereign body for decision-making, not an individual. The implication of designating the MK Party leader as a Sovereign Head is that he is the ultimate leader, above the constitution and the highest decision-making structure of the organisation. This is a textbook case of crude dictatorship quietly knocking on the back door of the MK Party. After the media conference, I heard one MK Party leader saying “ubaba akadlali”. I agree, he really does not play. The template of this MK Party “strategic reorganisation” is the North Korean ruling party model, the Workers Party of Korea (WPK), with its Supreme Leader. The Sovereign Leader, as presented by the MK Party, and the powers expressively assigned to him are squarely equivalent to that of the North Korean Supreme Leader. This designation accords the Sovereign Head, in the case of MK Party, a godly divine status with supreme powers to dictate every aspect of party life. All those who serve in leadership positions are identified and appointed by the Sovereign Head and he also carries the final say on policy direction. So, the MK Party will now officially operate under the principle of “monolithic leadership”, instead of “collective leadership”. Collective leadership signifies internal party democracy, where decisions are generated from robust internal engagements. In contrast, monolithic leadership implies an internal party dictatorship, with no meaningful engagement on issues, and everything subjected to the Sovereign Leader’s moods, whims, likes and dislikes. In this system, members are uncritical and primarily exist for the appeasement of the Sovereign Leader. This is to be expected with the MK Party, as its leaders continue to reject calls from members to convene elective conferences. The rejection is based on suspicion, paranoia and fear of infiltration. Mistrust of members is rife, that some are spies and sleepers, corrupted with money politics to destroy the party. The single biggest danger of monolithic leadership is that the Sovereign Leader would find it difficult to resist the temptation to convert the party into a personal fiefdom and a family dynasty -- what is now happening in the MK Party is a classic case of dictatorship. The North Korean WPK is a family dynasty characterised by hereditary leadership since 1948 with the establishment of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, which came to be known as North Korea. Leadership of the party is an inheritance for the Kim family. (Last 2 paragraphs follow in the comment section)
