I speak at the Annual Legal Conclave or the AICC at Vigyan Bhawan today: "I stand before you not just as a lawyer or a parliamentarian, but as a deeply concerned citizen of the Republic of India. A republic born out of dreams dreamt during the darkest nights of colonial oppression. A republic scripted not merely on paper, but in the blood, sweat, and tears of our freedom fighters. A republic whose constitutional soul today stands tested, tarnished, and threatened. The title of today's event, 'Constitutional Challenges: Perspectives & Pathways,' couldn't be more timely, urgent, or consequential. For the truth is bitter but unavoidable: we are living through a moment where the Constitution is not merely being ignored – it is being twisted into a tool of domination. The very values that gave us democratic breath – liberty, fraternity, equality, and justice – are all now gasping for air. It was the Congress that made India a democracy, not just in words or forms, but in spirit; and today, it must fall to the Congress again to protect, preserve, and, if necessary, revive the soul of the Constitution. The challenge we face today is not just bad governance or poor economics; it is a deeper, more serious crisis: the deliberate dismantling of constitutional values under the guise of the electoral majority."
