Yesterday's diversion of international flights, including Qatar Airways and Egypt Air, from Kano Airport due to harmattan visibility once again highlights the urgent need to upgrade the airport’s ILS CAT and landing aids. Domestic flights started operaying by 7am, however they had to stop by 11am and only resume 12.20am, Egypt Air that was to land 12.20pm wednesday Jan 14th had to divert to Abuja and only went back to Kano 12am Thursday Jan 15th in the morning. My 12pm Wednesday flight left 1 am Thurdday and landrd at Abuja 2.05am. Kano is a critical international gateway for Northern Nigeria and Hajj/Umra and business operations. We respectfully urge the Honourable Minister of Aviation to prioritize this upgrade so airlines and passengers can rely on safe, all weather operations.
