The newest Dr. Oz followed in the footsteps of his father and both grandfathers by taking the Hippocratic Oath to always put his patients first as he prepares to join Columbia’s residency program in Internal Medicine. Congratulations to all the graduates! Wishing you joy and fulfillment as you research, innovate, help and heal.

Recently, I was reminded why I chose medicine as a career. Physicians have the privilege of walking patients through some of the most vulnerable moments of their life. Taking care of Roger Altman was one of those profound honors and I was very touched by his kind comments on Squawk Box during a reunion organized by its superb host Joe Kernan. Moments like these remind us that behind every headline, every career, and every accomplishment, are human connections that truly matter.
