This was a very confusing video I recognised immediately that this was a HDB in Singapore But the kids started talking like they were from the hood in Detroit And then the guy brought them Koolaid like he was some kind of dealer And then the kids started exchanging accents with the dealer and suddenly they sounded Singaporean and the dealer sounded like he was someone pushing white on the streets Icing in the cake was the kids started singing in Melayu at the end What’s going on???? 😭

I feel second-hand embarrassment from this NMP Dr Neo Kok Beng was asked to give his insights regarding a motion from PAP MP Edwin Chia regarding nurturing SMBs in Singapore He then proceeded to talk about how TikTok’s CEO is his nephew, and Edwin was his student And then took 5 seconds to say “I support the motion” Reminds me of uncles that will name drop random folks that they know just to show that… they know (and then not adding value to the conversation) This is also the guy teaching tech entrepreneurship in universities as a PROFESSOR btw

This article actually reminded me of something yesterday... ...that Vivian Balakrishnan (the famous Foreign Minister of Singapore) was once opposition So I did some research and stumbled upon this GEM of a video and here's the synopsis: In 1990, a 28-year-old Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan sparred with a young lawyer named K. Shanmugam (our current Minister of National Security, and ex Minister of Law) in a televised debate where Vivian took an anti-establishment, critical stance against PAP's multiracial equality narrative. He wasn't "opposition" per se, but definite had very critical takes against the ruling party He was a President's Scholar, top ophthalmologist, and by 2001, he was CEO of Singapore General Hospital. PM Goh Chok Tong personally recruited him, and when Vivian admitted his skepticism, GCT replied: "You must hold fast to your values. If you have to compromise your values to join us, then you have no value to us" He then met LKY and LHL as part of PAP's selection process and mentioned that what struck him most wasn't ideological screening, but that PAP wanted people who could think independently, not yes-men Fast forward, he then joined the PAP and the result is the Foreign Minister beloved by most, today ------- If all of these anecdotes were true (and I believe they were), it really shows how Singapore was able to grow to the extent that it is today Strong, capable, and smart leaders Idk about the ones in today's generations but THIS, was truly the glory days of the PAP

Since it's the World Cup, I feel like the OG Singaporeans will remember this absolute GOLD The year was 2014 Singapore's National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) ran an anti-gambling World Cup ad starring a boy named Andy, whose dad bet his life savings on Germany to win This was obviously meant to be a messageabout reckless gambling But as we all know, this was also the year Germany demolished Brazil 7-1 in the semis And eventually won the 2014 World Cup by winning Argentina in the final The video that was meant to be a warning against problem gambling ended up becoming a meme
