Her biographer, Gayle Wald, wrote that Sister Rosetta was ahead of her times not by years, but by decades. In the late 1960s, when she was asked about the then-current state of music, Sister Rosetta said, “Oh, these kids and rock and roll — that is just sped up rhythm and blues. I've been doing that forever.”
