Imagine being stuck in a foreign country where you don’t speak the language and you can’t access your own money. Years ago I was in Morocco. Went to pay for my hotel and my card didn’t work. Tried again. Nothing. Called my bank. They told me there’s no banking treaty between the US and Morocco. Plenty of money in the account and none of it was reachable. A friend covered it and I sent him the transfer (shoutout to Atlas & E-go) Then I got up to my room and remembered I had another bank I’d never used. Went back down to the lobby and pulled cash out fine. That taught me something that seems obvious now. Never rely on one bank. That’s a single point of failure sitting on top of everything you own. Two or three accounts outside your home country. Then it doesn’t matter where you are, you can always reach your own money.

Imagine having so little going on in your own life that you sit around negatively commenting on other people. You’d have to have almost nothing of use happening to spend that much brainpower trying to tear someone down. Sometimes I feel like I’m in a simulation. In my world everybody I interact with is positive. Every day I see young men and women, parents too, reporting back on how their life improved. For some it’s finally getting in the gym. Others quit their job. Just improvement across the board. Then you’ve got anon08. Either too scared to show his face (always because they’re ugly) or he creates nothing, so he built a whole profile around hating on people who do. In the era of social media it’s easy to watch a couple clips and make a judgment. Spend any amount of time online and you’ll get hate. Every single time it comes from someone who feels triggered by your existence. Successful, they hate you. Happy, they hate you. Living proof of something they said wasn’t possible, they hate you most. Hate never comes from above. It always comes from below.

hiring people to look successful is one of the fastest ways to go broke. a few years ago i was burning over $10k a month on a team i'd just accumulated over the years. "this guy's got 8 kids, keep him on." "i like his attitude, keep this guy on." barely used half of them. no ROI. just cash leaving every month so i could feel like a CEO. here's what i learned: 1) money is energy you transfer to get a return. every dollar out should bring something back. if it doesn't, you're not building a team, you're funding your own ego. 2) you don't need a massive team anymore. with AI and the tools we have now, a lean crew of a few sharp people outpaces corporations with hundreds of employees. 3) only hire for a specific bottleneck. the thing you bang your head against or waste hours on. for me it was video editing. i'm good at it but it drains me. so i hired it out. that frees you to do the one thing only you can do. 4) find the single activity that grows the business if you do more of it. your job for the next 12-18 months is to do that one thing 99% of the time and hand everything else off. stop hiring to look big. start hiring to remove what's slowing you down.
