NAMIBIAN GROWN BANANAS NOW AVAILABLE ON THE SHELVES | The second most widely consumed fruit in Namibia is now being locally produced and is available for purchase at Checkers Maerua Mall. In collaboration with AvaGro Etunda Green Scheme and a local wholesaler, a total of 2.5 tonnes of bananas were recently harvested from the Etunda trial site on 08 May 2026, following their planting in January 2025. GRADUATE: Balasius Shikongo was among the graduates who received a Master’s degree in Education from the International University of Management (International University of Management) during the university’s winter convocation held on Friday at Ongwediva Trade Fair Centre. “You Are A Danger to Namibia with this Case” - Heathcote Tells Amupanda In another heated courtroom exchange, advocate Raymond Heathcote accused AR leader Job Amupanda of posing a danger to Namibian society with his calls to remove the red line, alleging the campaign is politically motivated. Heathcote stated, “On this kind of evidence, this irrationality, I would argue that you, Mr. Amupanda are in fact a danger to Namibian society with your quest to remove the red line just for politics.” In response, Amupanda fired back, accusing Heathcote and his client of perpetuating colonial legacies. “You and your client, and everybody defending settlers’ interests, wanting the continuity of colonialism... your client has been in existence since 1981, yet not a single office exists on the other side of the red line. The interest is in a settler’s area. You are the danger—you are the danger to our country, the unitarist character of our country, and our democracy. Seven Suspects Rob Kehemu Service Station in Early Morning Attack In the early hours of Thursday morning, at around 03h00, seven robbers allegedly targeted the Kehemu Service Station. Reports indicate that the suspects approached the Namcor Service Station, where they allegedly pointed a pistol at a security guard and made off with a cash box containing over N$8,000, along with other items such as sweets, condoms, and biltong. According to information provided by store manager, Felicia Gabriel, one of the employees was attacked with a panga during the incident and sustained head injuries. Unemployed Teachers Protest for Fair Hiring in Katutura Unemployed qualified teacher graduates gathered at the Teachers’ Resource Center in Katutura this morning, demanding an end to job interviews and the adoption of a fair, database-driven recruitment system. “We are qualified, yet we sit at home while classrooms are overcrowded,” said one protester. ‘Now I am free’ – Tjongarero Bids Farewell to Sports Ministry Former Sports and Youth Minister Agnes Tjongarero, during her farewell ceremony, expressed her gratitude for the freedom she now enjoys in retirement, stating, "Now I'm free. Nobody will call me for anything. If I want to go to anybody's farm, I go. If I go to Luderitz, I go. If I go to Azerbaijan, I go. Free. I don't ask for any permission to go.” Tjongarero, who is retiring after years of service, urged the staff of the ministry to remain disciplined and focused, emphasising, "Be disciplined. Jesus, the Resurrection and the Red Line The courtroom buzzed with tension between Advocate Mbushandje Paa Ntinda and Judge Shafimana Ueitele as the discussion centered on the admissibility and credibility of evidence of the defendant, particularly concerning historical events relating to former governor of German South West-Africa, Theodor Leutwein and his deputy, Friedrich von Lindequist. Judge Ueitele stressed the importance of firsthand knowledge in testimony, questioning how a witness born long after certain events could provide reliable evidence about them. “The defendants' arguments are that between 1961 to 1964 whether a settler government, or a colonial government attempted a number of methods to control all animal diseases,” Ueitele said. He stated that evidence should be based on direct observation or experience, rather than hearsay or secondhand information. Judge Ueitele said Amupanda’s rights had not been infringed upon according to Article 10 of the Namibian constitution which prescribes breach. “To prove it was erected you need to get Lutwein and Lundequist. Go and dig them up. Go and exhume them and bring them to court,” Ueitele said. With Ntinda restoring: “Yes, I will ask Jesus to assist me, my Lord.” “That happened 130 years before you were born. Heathcote Accuses Amupanda of Lying During cross-examination, Advocate Heathcote probed Job Amupanda on whether he knew it was illegal to transport meat from north of the veterinary cordon fence to the south. Heathcote asserted, “You knew, and you are now deliberately misleading this court. You knew on that day that you may not bring, according to the laws of this country, meat from north to south. You knew it and you persisted in your conduct.” Amupanda denied the accusation, maintaining that he did not know the specific legal restriction. “I was aware that there is a veterinary cordon fence, but it only dawned on me on that day that it was prohibited to transport meat across it. That was the very first day I came to the realisation,” he testified. The exchange became heated as Judge Uietele pressed Amupanda for a clear answer. “Did you know that you were not allowed to take meat from north of the veterinary cordon fence over to the south of there?” asked the judge. “I didn’t know,” Amupanda responded. He further referred the court to witness statements by veterinary officials present during the incident, suggesting they provide context for his actions and interactions on the day in question.
