Controversial South African music executive MORAL Authority has taken aim at Zimbabwean music while defending the dominance of South African artists across the continent. “Stop complaining about why South African artists are getting booked in your countries,” Nota said, arguing that South Africa’s music industry does not depend on the rest of Africa for its survival. He went further, claiming that even if Zimbabwe, Nigeria and the rest of Africa were to boycott South African music, “it won’t impact us.” His comments raise a bigger question: Is South African music genuinely that self-sufficient, or has its continental success been built partly on audiences and markets across Africa?

The American singer recently shared some of her latest music discoveries with Pigeons & Planes and among her picks was Mapfumo’s classic “Ndanzwa Ngoma Kurira.” Daughter of Hollywood stars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, WILLOW is a Grammy-nominated artist who first broke globally with “Whip My Hair.” Decades later, Mukanya’s music is still travelling, still being discovered and still finding new ears across generations.

Dear Perm -Sec Nick Mangwana we would like to find out, what is the official Government position with regards to this organization called Reprographic Rights Association of Zimbabwe? Officials from the organization are going around the country demanding, threatening and collecting money from legit businesses in the Printing and Embroidery businesses. $200 per Printer or Embroidery machine license fee per year, at times asking for more. In some situations they move around with police officers Zimbabwe Republic Police and also giving businesses the "false" impression that they are part of or were sanctioned or approved by the GVT. Since our extensive coverage of the issue earlier this year we keep getting calls and messages from business people in distress. The government has been cutting on Taxes and working around the ease of doing business but sadly RROZ is harassing businesses. What are businesses paying for? Who are their members? Where does the money collected go? Would greatly appreciate your response on this. My name is Plot Mhako - Editor earGROUND ® Below is a snippet from stories we did earlier this year.
