𝗘𝗻𝘂𝗴𝘂 𝗧𝗼 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝟲𝟲𝟬 𝗠𝗪 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗹-𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝟭𝟴 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 The Enugu State Government plans to break ground in July on a 660-megawatt coal-fired power plant, targeting completion and commissioning within 18 months to deliver reliable and affordable electricity across the state. The project leverages Enugu’s exceptionally high-quality coal deposits, which boast a calorific value exceeding 7,200 kcal/kg and very low sulphur content below 0.5%, making them ideal for efficient power generation. Rather than exporting the resource, the state aims to add local value by converting the coal into electricity to power homes, businesses, and industries. If completed on schedule, the initiative could enable 24-hour uninterrupted power supply statewide from 2027 onward, marking a major energy milestone for Nigeria.
