An alleged assault involving local taxi drivers and Indian Army personnel in North Sikkim's Lachung area has triggered controversy, with the drivers' fraternity and the Army presenting sharply differing accounts of the incident. According to a statement issued by the All Sikkim Voice of Chauffeur, the incident took place in the Lachung Zero Point area. The drivers' body stated that a child travelling with a tourist in one of the vehicles had suddenly fallen ill, following which the concerned driver allegedly requested an Army vehicle ahead and other drivers to allow passage due to the medical emergency. #Sikkim #NortheastIndia

#Manipur: Protests erupt in Imphal over two missing students, many injured Chants of “we want justice” echoed across several areas of Imphal on Tuesday after pictures of two students, 20-year-old Phijam Hemanjit and 17-year-old Luwangthoi Linthoingambi Hijam who had been missing since July surfaced online. The protests were organized under the banner of the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU). Reacting to the pictures, students of Tamphasana Girls’ Higher Secondary School, CC Higher Secondary School and several others stormed the heart of Imphal city, including Sanjenthong and Keishampat areas demanding justice for the students. Protestors were seen surpassing police barricades in several locations. Police even resorted to firing stun grenades and tear gas shells injuring several students. According to sources, Linthoingambi was a student of Tamphasana Girls’ Higher Secondary School and was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, while Hemanjit was studying at CC Higher Secondary School in Imphal.

#Manipur | Meira Paibis, a collective of Meitei women, staged a protest and blocked the road at Kumbi in Manipur’s #Bishnupur District on April 30. This was after the 2nd Mahar Regiment of the #IndianArmy arrested ten members of the village defence force on Monday evening. Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, Meira Paibis in the hundreds gathered near the #Moirang police station and blocked the road. Visuals captured on the ground also show a vehicle being placed on the road to block the army convoy.

#SikkimFloods | Is Sikkim’s cry for help falling on deaf ears? In 2011, when a large earthquake struck #Sikkim, Pema Lachungpa was the Medical Officer for Teesta Urja Pvt. Ltd. He was located in Gangtok at the time of the fatal earthquake with his family. The earthquake did massive damage in Chungthang. He could have just stayed home safe with his family. But he approached his Management Office in Gangtok to airlift him to ground zero. These kinds of people do not change with time or money. They are almost born to help those in need.
