One of the reasons I admire him is his courage to speak and pass his message without fear or favour. Hon. Franklin Owhor, who hails from Choba in Obio/Akpor, received this message today from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in his hometown during the occasion of his mother’s burial. The Minister urged him to support the people around him and not be stingy with what God has blessed him with. He further encouraged him to emulate his late mother, which clearly suggests that she was a generous and giving woman. I do not think we should blame Wike for choosing such an occasion to make this message public. It is possible that he had privately advised him on this matter several times without much effect, and therefore used the opportunity of paying tribute to his late mother to reiterate the message publicly. The truth is that many political leaders are guilty of this. They give their followers peanuts, yet they have the influence and connections to genuinely transform lives. Some cannot even recommend their loyal supporters for the least job opportunities, despite the access and influence they wield. Leadership should not be about what we can take from the people; it should also be about what we can give back to them. Thank you, Leader, for speaking frankly and reminding us that true leadership comes with responsibility.
