Section 4(1) of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act 2013 criminalizes the 'public display of an amorous relationship.' This means that a man and a man holding hands, hugging, kissing, dancing romantically together, sitting on each other's laps, cuddling, or otherwise expressing romantic or sexual affection toward one another in public can attract a 10-year prison sentence under Section 5(2) of the same Act. N/B This applies to both male and female. The circulating videos of boys holding hands and dancing romantically to music at the just concluded Garri Fest in Port Harcourt should be taken seriously. The Commissioner of NPF Rivers State, Rivers State, Nigeria Police Force Nigeria Police Force should investigate the event and arrest the perpetrators as soon as possible. There was a wanton public display of same-sex relationships at that event in Port Harcourt. This means crimes were committed with impunity.
