Three weeks ago, I met five Somali civil engineers and architects at an airport in Asia—heading to Saudi Arabia to help build the Line megacity, a project that should have been possible in their own country. A year before that, I spoke with a Somali professor of civil engineering who contributed to the Denmark bridge linking Copenhagen and Malmö. In Qatar’s Ministry of Health, a Swiss-trained Somali neurosurgeon named Leila was recruited to reform and modernize their healthcare system. Meanwhile, in Somalia, the so-called leaders do nothing but exploit, steal, and sabotage any progress. Our people have the talent, but our country is crippled by a leadership that is nothing short of disgraceful.

I’m honestly not surprised. Africa has always been treated like a testing ground for Western corporations, and Nestlé is just the latest proof. They deliberately load their baby cereals with added sugar for African markets, yet the exact same products are sold sugar-free in Europe. That double standard says everything about how they view African children’s health. What makes it worse is that people like Professor Vandana Shiva have been warning us for decades about how these global corporations exploit the Global South experimenting on our communities, dumping lower-quality products, and pushing practices they wouldn’t dare use in their own countries. And here it is happening again, right in front of us. It’s shameless, predatory behavior. These companies profit from parents who just want to feed their babies, all while giving African children ingredients they would never give to European kids. It’s exploitation masked as business.

No leadership, no damn military with discipline. This girl was attacked by a bunch of useless men just for standing in a queue. Some random white men with an armed vehicle tried to cut in front of her, she refused, and instead of defending her, she got insulted. What a pathetic, spineless country running after foreigners while treating its own women like dirt. Absolutely disgusting. I swear I don’t even want to step foot in Somalia until they fix their dirty, rotten attitude towards women. This country doesn’t need reform, it needs a complete reset.
