A shocking case has emerged from Kanpur court. In a maintenance case, a man was produced before the court on a stretcher, leaving everyone stunned. Within a month of marriage, the woman returned to her maternal home and filed multiple cases against her husband, including under Section 498A IPC and for maintenance. The husband, however, is suffering from a brain haemorrhage and has been paralysed. Despite submitting medical certificates regarding his condition, he was produced before the Kanpur court in a paralysed state. ▪️In Puri, Odisha, a man named Sudhanshu Bhusan Behera died by suicide on 19 March 2026, alleging betrayal and blackmail by his live-in partner. ▪️Sudhanshu had met a woman through a matrimonial website, and their relationship gradually developed into a live-in arrangement. They had planned to marry each other. However, the woman later refused to marry him and allegedly cheated him of ₹8 lakh. ▪️Distressed, Sudhanshu approached the police, seeking action against her, but no action was taken despite his repeated complaints. Meanwhile, the woman filed counter-complaints at Pipili Police Station and Bhubaneswar Mahila Police Station, accusing Sudhanshu of rape and harassment. ▪️Acting on her complaint, the police initiated an investigation and visited Sudhanshu’s residence to arrest him. However, upon reaching his place, the police found his body hanging. ▪️Following the incident, the police sent his body for postmortem. In a matrimonial dispute, the wife lodged an FIR against the husband under Section 498A IPC and also alleged unnatural sex to implicate him under Section 377 IPC. The allegation under Section 377 was made in just a single line in her statement. The parties subsequently approached the Delhi High Court seeking quashing of the FIR, as their divorce had been finalised and the husband had agreed to pay ₹15 lakhs as alimony. The wife informed the Court that she had no objection to the quashing of the FIR. Justice Girish Kathpalia observed that if such practices continue, the Court would begin taking action against the complainant, the investigating officer, as well as the counsel involved. He further cautioned that advocates must draft complaints responsibly and should not encourage false allegations by women as genuine victims of sexual offences will suffer. Ironically, a jail convict gets more time to spend with their family than a father meeting his own child. When a woman files an FIR alleging rape, she is entitled to receive compensation from the State at various stages—starting from the registration of the FIR, then upon filing of the chargesheet, and again if the case results in conviction.
