Here’s a story of how my Prayer retreat turned to an unplanned date 😂 One evening in April, back in School of Ministry, while Apostle Selman was teaching us, he made a digression and started telling us about his life’s journey, the days of his struggles and how God pulled him out of a life of hardship. It was a very very emotional class as He encouraged us to not give up on God in our season of waiting. Tears flowed freely that evening as we prayed. Particularly for me because I was without an accommodation of my own and a job at the time. I had questioned what God was doing with my life in this City and I needed answers really quick. After the class that night, I decided to spend the following day Retreating at Millennium Park. There I was going to ask God questions and hold Jesus by the hem of His garment, or so I thought. I got to the park at 10am that morning and found a proper spot to lay the mat I had rented. I laid there studying and meditating for about an hour and then began to mutter words in tongues. A little while later, this pretty young lady walked up to me and asked if she could borrow my tripod stand which I had propped beside my backpack. I asked her to take it as I continued praying under my breath. About 15 minutes later, she returned again to ask me to share my wifi hotspot as she wanted to get data. I was quite puzzled because it takes a certain kind of audacity to be that demanding. 😂 It was an admirable kind of audacity, though. I mean, I liked the free spirit she had and, honestly, coveted it. After about 30 minutes of struggling to concentrate on my prayers and process what had just happened, I decided to go meet her at her mat a few trees away, partly to collect my tripod stand and partly because I thought, “Let me get to know this girl too.” 😂 We introduced ourselves to each other, turned out I was speaking with a celebrity Podcaster, Author and Public Speaker… Mimi Okana has a penchant for intellectual conversations and little did I know what I was in for that day. We talked, took a really long walk, shared a wrap of ram suya, took a walk back still talking and talking and talking away the afternoon. I eventually moved my mat to hers and all that were around must have thought we came together or something. A family nearby who were celebrating their baby’s second birthday brought us fried rice and chicken, then coleslaw and later zobo, and later a handful of cake. I had so much to eat that day. So much that I had enough to take home as well. By the time Mimi and I stood up to leave that evening, all of the burdens I went to the park with had been lifted. I felt way better and at peace. Speaking with Mimi had made me feel a lot lighter. And there was a strange flush of joy in my heart. Then on my way home, The Holy Spirit said to me “I didn’t bring you here today to lament to me. I brought you to give you a pat on the back and to let you know I’m still with you in this.” And that hit me. Because sometimes, when we are waiting on God, we become so consumed with asking, “When will this end?” that we forget to notice that God is already walking with us through it. The job and accommodation eventually came exactly a week later. But Sometimes the miracle is not that God immediately changes your situation. Sometimes the miracle is that He gives you enough joy, strength and assurance to keep walking until the situation changes. Will you look beyond the pain today and pay attention to the little things? The little moments of joy. The unexpected conversations. The laughter you didn’t plan for. The provision you almost overlooked. The strength to get through another day. The peace that doesn’t quite make sense. God is reminding you, even in the middle of your waiting, that He is still with you.

Today, Koinonia’s Head of Media, Agbi Omon met this man (George) on the streets of London listening to Apostle Joshua Selman’s message, oblivious of the fact that Apostle himself was around the corner. That’s the mark of true impact: when a message travels farther than the messenger.

Last night I had a heavy heart and couldn’t bring myself to utter a word of prayer. I just sat still on the bare floor meditating on Scriptures for an entire hour. As I stood up to go to bed, The Spirit laid it in my heart to search for “Reckless Love - Apostle Grace Lubega” on YouTube (The original song is by Cory Asbury, but I always prefer Apostle Lubega’s worship sessions). As I searched, the first video that popped up was this video by Apostle Joshua Selman instead. I’m not so much of an emotional person, but I bawled my eyes out last night as I listened to this brief ministration. It was speaking directly to me. All the while, God placed this burden in my heart, for this single moment. It reminded me of what Apostle Iren was saying about prayers at Reboot Camp last week Friday, that even when you don’t feel like it, that’s when you need it the most, stay there. Just stay. Even when you don’t have the words, just stay. It is in this unconditional pursuit of God that intimacy is birthed. To the Holy Spirit, its a proof of commitment, yieldedness and readiness.

I was praying on Monday night when this song dropped in my spirit. I decided to look it up on YouTube, and this Apostle Grace Lubega's rendition was the first video that caught my attention. I've lost count of how many times I've watched this ministration this week.

I read about this in Reinhard Bonnke’s autobiography and had to find the video. In 1986, during the first CFAN Fire Conference in Harare (A ministers retreat as it were), Archbishop Benson Idahosa was the only black speaker that was invited. During his session, Idahosa kept saying “This is not a storytelling conference, its a miracle conference” because apparently the ministers that had gone before him all ended up only teaching the word. In the crowd that day were two people who had been carried in by others. Idahosa promised that they’d walk out of that hall with their feet. What you see in the video was what followed. Apostle Joshua Selman always says that what makes a believer a Complete believer is the combination of “the Nature of Christ, the wisdom of Christ and the Power of Christ.” Unfortunately, this generation has not experienced the power of Christ as of old. That’s why even believers doubt today. The Church needs to wake up again and walk in the fullness of what God has made it to be.
