In the final hours of the L.A. Mayor's race, Karen Bass told me: "It's no time for amateurs. We don't need a TV reality show villain. Nor do we need a councilwoman who has been at City Hall for twice as long as I have and is OK with tents in the street." Nithya Raman responded: "I have demonstrated my ability to deliver results." Should California's .61 a gallon gas tax be temporarily suspended with gas prices so high? Xavier Becerra: "how about we suspend Donald Trump and we can bring the price down much more than the .61 we get from the gas tax? If we don't have a gas tax, how do you keep your roads repaired, how do you build the bridges you need, how do you fill the potholes?" I ask: "other states pay a lot lower gas taxes & they still have roads that work?" Becerra: "Let's go take a look and compare." Fellow Democratic candidate Mayor Matt Mahan says it should be temporarily suspended & replaced long term with something more progressive. He says the gas tax hurts people who can't afford electric vehicles; while electric vehicle owners benefit from others paying the tax. Becerra: "Whether its an electric vehicle or not, you're using the roads. The gas tax provides us with the resources to fix the roads."

👀"The Democratic Party lost its mind!" Pres. Biden's senior advisor Mike Donilon on Pres. Biden being pressured to drop out of the 2024 race: "I thought it was disloyal...an act of betrayal against the President...undemocratic...and...politically stupid." I spoke to Donilon on stage at USC Center for the Political Future Warschaw Conference. I asked him why Biden dropped out? "He dropped out because the Democratic leadership and the biggest Democratic donors in America made the decision that he could not win." Was it a mistake he dropped out? "I don't think it was a mistake. I think it was a mistake for the party to have a circular firing squad." Who is the best successor to Biden in 2028? He thinks Fmr.
