Professor Michelle Cho, Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Toronto speaking with CBC: "It's interesting because, you know, the last Grammys from 2025 had the biggest showing from the K-pop industry that we've seen thus far. You had "Golden" from KPop Demon Hunters, which is a product of K-pop industry's music professionals, win an award. It's actually the first K-pop song to win a Grammy. And also, you had big entries in the pop categories from Rosé of BLACKPINK for "APT." with Bruno Mars, and also KATSEYE. So it's interesting, again, that the more space K-pop as an industry is taking up in the soundscape of North America, the quicker to contain it. Or that seems to be the gesture — by announcing this new category suddenly after that banner year."

So they're asking, I think, the Recording Academy to reconsider that logic. It's just nonsensical to impose geography as a genre category.
