The facts are shocking. Online child sexual abuse has become an epidemic in the digital world. In 2010, there were 1 million reports of child sexual abuse material. Today, there are 20 million. AI-generated Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) has surged by 1,000% in just one year. And 60% of this material is hosted in Europe, making our continent a global hotspot. 🚨 Children are in need across Europe, and the silence is deafening. “Why, when we have the technology to detect, report, and remove online child abuse material, and to catch the perpetrators, are we not using it?” – a survivor asks us, looking straight into our hearts. Today, the tools that let us spot abuse and help the police are gone. The EU rules that forced platforms to act expired on 3 April. Every day with this legal vacuum means another child can be hurt, another voice will stay silent, and another survivor will have to stand where we are now, pleading for help that came too late. ‼️Protect children, not predators!

Two words for the Socialists: completely irresponsible. They chose to kill the deal on extending rules on the detection and reporting of child sexual abuse online. That means - shielding online predators and leaving children unprotected! They knew that any changes beyond the EPP Group’s single technical amendment - already backed by Member States - would force the file back into long negotiations, creating a protection gap. Protecting children should never be about political games. And yet, they went ahead. So did Renew, ECR, and the Greens. By doing so, these groups blocked the only workable solution to maintain the detection and reporting of child sexual abuse online. Let’s be clear: what is illegal offline must also be illegal online.
