Encouraging to see President Donald J. Trump and America’s top business leaders making real progress with China. The announcement that China will be purchasing Boeing jets is a major win for American manufacturing, American jobs, and the U.S. economy. I recently visited China, and whether people want to admit it or not, the level of innovation and technological advancement there is impressive. We have to live in reality, and the reality is that China is a major global superpower. Pretending otherwise does not help America compete or lead. When I saw a Chinese robot change its own battery, I realized we have to catch up in some areas. That is why President Trump’s trip is important, not just for trade, but for America’s technological future and competitiveness. America should always put its interests first, but a stable and productive relationship between the world’s two largest economies benefits everyone.

In case anyone was wondering, this was the real motive behind today’s press conference. Mayor Mamdani promised a laundry list of “free” giveaways to buy votes, with no plan to pay for them. Now that the math doesn’t work, instead of owning the fact that he misled New Yorkers, he’s blaming me. Let’s be clear: I left him over $8 BILLION in reserves. This is the same Mamdani who spent years attacking me for not spending enough during the migrant crisis. The only reason those reserves exist is because I ignored him and his socialist comrades who demanded we blow billions more with no guardrails. “Free” isn’t free. It’s just a bill someone else has to pay.

The far left’s new war on AI is deeply misguided, and my community and other communities of color will pay the price. While countries around the world are preparing their young people for the jobs and technologies of the future, some here would rather bury their heads in the sand than equip our children with the skills they need to succeed in a world that is already changing. We must push back against this fear-driven approach and ensure our communities are not left behind once again. The future belongs to those who prepare for it, not those who pretend it isn’t coming.

Correct, we did have a hole, caused by the tens of thousands of migrants who poured into our city while the Biden Administration stood by, did absolutely nothing, and left New York to deal with the crisis they created. I made the tough cuts necessary to close that gap, without the state giving us a pass on class size mandates and other measures, cuts the current Mayor and his socialist comrades in the City Council loudly protested at the time. The job of a mayor is to make hard choices, not politically convenient ones, by the time I left, NYC had 8 billion dollars left in reserves.

Not long ago I had a real conversation with Charlie Kirk. We didn’t see eye to eye on everything, but he listened, he challenged, and I respected him for his eagerness to engage in dialogue. Now I can’t stop thinking about his wife, his kids, his family shattered overnight. About the students who will never unsee what happened yesterday. We’re watching hate radicalize young people right in front of us. If we don’t fight it head-on, more families will be broken just like his.
