After Victors block on Jimmy with 32 seconds left, Spurs were up 1. If you dribble the ball out to suck time off the clock, you’re doing the defense a favor because 1: the D is set and you’re allow them to rest. —- gearing up for a final possession to win. 2: You’re going to get off a rushed /bad shot by starting the action late in the clock. I hate this decision by Fox. Go for the throat and push in semi transition off the block shot. Start the offense early in the clock to be sure you get a great shot and go for the damn throat. I can understand it if there’s 24-26 seconds left in the game after you secure possession but not when there’s 8-9 second difference in shot clock & game clock. Live and learn. Lost by 3. Lost by 1.

Got to love Moody grabbing and holding and pulling down Steph off the o glass and then being paranoid about a foul call ( with good reason). This isn’t why they lost the game though. Fox was brutal late in the game in the last 2 minutes. Spurs lost about 3-4 possessions due to his decisions + his foul on Curry.

The day Pop took over the leadership role of the franchise. San Antonio and the NBA would never be the same.

26 years ago. Memorial Day Miracle. Everyone remembers this shot. Where were you? I was 13 years old watching the whole second half standing on the living room couch — even for the commercials. ( I was superstitious in sports growing up competing in basketball and baseball and am til this day). What people don’t remember about this ending is the possession after this shot. Jim Jackson drove baseline where Sean stayed on his hip and got the block which left Portland scrambling for a desperate heave as time expired ( Sean also deflected the rebound). Prime Sean was a two way player of the future at the time — he would be the perfect 3 right now for this current Spurs team. He was an elite defender in the 90s. He could shoot with the. Est of them and make plays off the bounce and probably could have had more on ball playmaking responsibilities if teams thought outside the box a little more at the time. Incredible shot yes, but let’s not forget his defensive stop too. Watching this game unfold felt like a giant weight was lifted off the shoulders as a fan after falling short by bad luck over and over throughout the 90s. Good times.

Tomorrow night should be a fun litmus test. The Spurs Pistons matchup has meaning again and I’m all the way here for it.

Game on the line with Mr Stephon Castle defending Steph. He denies Steph and anticipates the pass to the weakside 3 and gets a deflection. He then denies Steph one pass away after the deflection and gets the steal. He then pushes pace and finds the right read for Julian in the corner. Two way winning intangibles on top of everything else. Castle has special potential. Rookie of the Year.
