Wow! Today, I celebrate H.E President William Ruto William Samoei Ruto, PhD for recognising the unique needs of women serving in our National Police Service through the introduction of maternity uniforms for expectant officers. Let us not lose sight of what this represents; dignity, inclusion and recognition that a woman can embrace motherhood while continuing to serve her country. I am really looking forward to seeing us build on this progress across the entire public service, with stronger maternity and parental support, safe and conducive working environments, childcare support and policies that protect women, especially mothers. I also encourage the private and corporate sectors to continually ask, what more can we do to support women through pregnancy, motherhood and their return to work? This video by Nana Owiti is refreshing because it shows firsthand what such a seemingly simple change can mean. To someone else, it may just be another uniform but to an expectant police officer wearing it, it means comfort, dignity, recognition and the freedom of not having to choose between service and motherhood. My desire to serve Makadara was genuine, but everywhere I went across Nairobi, the message was the same: “What about us? Don’t we matter? We don’t want to lose you as our Woman Rep, Mama.” Truth is, serving the people of Nairobi is a responsibility I have loved and embraced wholeheartedly. So when that call came from the people, and was reaffirmed through consultations with my Party, ODM party leadership, feedback from Nairobi residents and opinion polls, the direction became clear. And so, I am back to defend my seat as Nairobi County Woman Representative in 2027. Nairobians will ultimately decide at the ballot. Baba built this party for 20 years. He left us in broad-based, and I intend to do my part to keep this seat within broad-based as the ODM's and the Broadbased Candidate for Nairobi County Woman Representative, so help me God! Targeting our First Lady, Her Excellency Mama Rachel Ruto, EGH, and suggesting that her wearing shades is evidence of abuse is reckless and irresponsible. Sexual and gender-based violence is not something to trivialize, weaponize, or turn into political theatre. Many people judge the office of the Woman Representative without fully understanding its limitations. Imagine having only 20 bursaries to allocate in an entire ward with more than 50,000 residents. This is the reality many Woman Representatives face as patrons of National Government Affirmative Action Fund. It is a matter of limited resources against overwhelming demand. As we continue advocating for greater opportunities and support for our people, let us also have honest conversations about what the office is mandated and resourced to do because an informed public makes better decisions.

The question before us as Members of the Pan-African Parliament Pan-African Parliament is: How do we replicate Ghana's success across the rest of Africa? Trade thrives on trust. That is why we must confront and eliminate xenophobia, ensuring that every African feels at home anywhere on the continent. Only then can we unlock the full potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area and build the united, prosperous Africa we envision.

🇹🇿 I had the honour of moderating a session commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action at the Pan African Parliament. There has been much discussion and fake posts on my observation during the Tanzanian General Elections, on which I have already issued a statement in line with the AU report, which found the election to be far from free, fair, and credible. From the videos emerging, it is heartbreaking to see that the very women and girls we champion for are the ones most affected. We can’t just celebrate women in leadership, we must celebrate good leadership, good governance, democracy, and peace across Africa.
