A powerful visit by Dutch King Willem-Alexander to the Jewish community in The Hague, at the historic Portuguese-Jewish Snoge as it celebrates its 300th anniversary. The King heard directly from community members about Jewish life in the Netherlands today, including parents whose children no longer wear a kippah in public, Jews who conceal their mezuzahs or avoid reading Hebrew on public transport, and young people who increasingly think twice before revealing their Jewish identity. King Willem-Alexander stressed that Jews cannot be held responsible for events in Israel and called on the Netherlands’ “silent majority” to stand with the Jewish community. We deeply appreciate the King for listening to these experiences and for using his voice to draw attention to them. Three hundred years after this synagogue was built, Jewish life in the Netherlands remains vibrant and resilient. It must also remain visible, confident and safe. 🎥 RVD

We strongly condemn the scenes in Milan, where descendants of the Jewish Brigade and members of the Jewish community were forced to leave the Liberation Day march under police protection after being surrounded by demonstrators shouting antisemitic slogans. This incident is particularly concerning given the historical role of the Jewish Brigade, whose members fought against Nazism in Italy. The intimidation and exclusion of Jewish participants from a commemoration of liberation represent a profound distortion of history and a serious manifestation of contemporary antisemitism. Such behaviour is unacceptable. Targeting Jewish individuals in a public commemoration undermines the very values of remembrance, democracy and coexistence that this day is meant to uphold.
