Elon Musk: The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is the empathy exploit “There's a guy who posts on the internet who's great, Gad Saad, and he talks about basically suicidal empathy. There's so much empathy that you actually suicide yourself. So we've got civilizational suicidal empathy going on. I believe in empathy. I think you should care about other people, but you need to have empathy for civilization as a whole and not commit to a civilizational suicide. The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy. The empathy exploit. They're exploiting a bug in Western civilization, which is the empathy response. I think empathy is good, but you need to think it through and not just be programmed like a robot. Its weaponized empathy is the issue.”

Elon Musk: The economic pie is not fixed, so work on adding to the economic pie, creating more than you consume "When we see people, including some very smart people, taking an attitude of doing things that seem morally questionable, it's often because they have, at a base axiomatic level, a zero-sum mindset. If you have a zero-sum mindset, then the only way to get ahead is by taking things from others. If the pie is fixed, then the only way to have more pie is to take someone else's pie. But this is false. Obviously, the pie has grown dramatically over time, the economic pie. So, in reality, there's a lot of pie. The pie is not fixed. Elon Musk explains why government efficiency matters: “I mean, North Korea, they're starving. South Korea, it's like amazing. And so in North Korea, you've got 100% government. In South Korea, you've got probably, I don't know, 40% government. It's not zero. And yet you've got a standard of living that is probably 10 times higher in South Korea. At least. And then East and West Germany, in West Germany, you had, just thinking in terms of cars, I mean, you had BMW, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes. And East Germany, which is a random line on a map, the only car you could get was a Trabant, which is basically a lawnmower with a shell on it. And it was extremely unsafe. There was a 20-year wait. So you put your kid on the list as soon as they're conceived. Even then, only, I think, a quarter of people maybe got this lousy car. So that's just an interesting example of basically the same people, different operating system.”

Maye Musk Maye Musk was once asked, if she could give advice to her younger self, what would it be? “I would say if you're in an unhappy situation, get out quicker, don't think it's going to change, you have to get out. And getting out of them could mean financial loss, it could mean you lose your friends, it could be because you're moving to a new city, where you have no friends. And it still could be better that what you were in before. Accept the consequences, be responsible for yourself, but you can survive.”

Maye Musk is an incredible woman with a wealth of life experience, filled with both horrors and great success. She's a wonderful role model. Here's one of her most valuable pieces of advice that could help many: “I would say if you're in an unhappy situation, get out quicker, don't think it's going to change, you have to get out. Elon Musk on his young years in Canada: “I came to North America when I was 17 just by myself. I had a few thousand dollars in Travelers' checks... in Canadian dollars. I landed in Montreal. I have some family in Canada, and my mom's uncle lived in Montreal, but we didn't even know his phone number. I landed in Montreal, and my mom says, 'I just got a letter back from my uncle and he's in Minnesota' or something. I'm like, 'Okay, I don't know what to do now.' So I just stayed in the Youth Hostel and bought a bus ticket across Canada. I worked in various odd jobs and stuff. I worked on my mom's cousin's wheat farm in Saskatchewan for six weeks. That's where I had my 18th birthday, actually. Worked in the Lumser Mill, Chainsaw Logs, did various odd jobs. And then went to college in Canada for a couple of years... And then I applied to the University of Pennsylvania. I didn't think I'd be able to go because the tuition is really high, but they gave me a scholarship and loans and stuff, so I was able to go there.”

Elon Musk: Never trust a cynic, because most people are kind of medium good ❤️ “Never trust a cynic. The reason is, that cynics excuse their own bad behavior by saying everyone does it, because they're cynical. So I always be, it's a red flag if someone's a cynic, a true cynic. But this is an important point that I think people listening should bear in mind. If somebody is cynical, meaning that they see bad behavior in everyone, it's easy for them to excuse their own bad behavior by saying, well, everyone does it, but it's not true. Elon Musk: Starlink is going to do a tremendous amount of good “Starlink is good in and of itself. The Starlink system provides low-cost, high-bandwidth connectivity anywhere in the world. It's the first truly global Internet system. And I think it's helping a lot of people around the world who either don't have access to connectivity, or it's too expensive. You know, once you have access to the Internet, you can learn anything. You can sell your products and services to the rest of the world. So, I think Starlink actually is going to do a tremendous amount of good in lifting people out of poverty and helping them.”
