I bumped into Dr Mmusi Maimane MP today at the SiGMA Africa Summit and we had a good conversation about education. Let me say something that l some people find uncomfortable: You do not have to agree with a politician to speak to them, you do not have to share their ideology to influence them and you certainly should not limit your influence only to people who think like you. Don’t get me wrong, I am not joining politics, but I respect those who choose that path because they carry the responsibility of public decision-making. There are ears in society that will listen to politicians but may never listen to academics, activists or entrepreneurs. So if we care about education & the future of our young people, we must be willing to engage widely. Influence should not have boundaries, it should have purpose. #EducationMatters #Leadership #InfluenceWithoutBoundaries #MakeEducationFashionable #AfricaRising

I have just landed in East London to speak at the MEC Excellence Awards to celebrate teachers and school principals who contributed to the province’s historic matric pass rate. I found a fellow African woman selling these outfits (umbaco) on the corridor just before exit and I could not resist getting one. Bazalwane!!! Yhuuuu! They told us: Work hard. Climb the ladder. Be competative. Chase success. So we did. Then in April 2023, I retired at 56 and realised the race was optional. Retirement is not about stopping, it’s about choosing your pace, choosing your projects, choosing your people & choosing your time. I don’t wake up at 3am anymore. I don’t sit in traffic. I don’t apologise for resting. I don’t compete. I set the pace. I turn 60 in 246 days and this is the freest I’ve ever been. #Countdownto60 #AntiFragile #DesignYourLife
