Get a passport, go to China once, and that whole fantasy falls apart. I just grabbed recent Tibet helicopter clips off Chinese Douyin—posted casually by ordinary tourists. I’ve been to Tibet five times. At least twice I ran into a Chinese combined-arms brigade on exercise. I grew up a military nerd, drooling over U.S. kit. On a riverbed buried beneath tens of meters of sediment, rescuers are welding steel frames to reinforce the rescue site, creating stable support points that allow them to carry out further excavation through the unstable deposits. At the same time, rescue workers digging by hand are reporting every piece of clothing and personal belonging they recover, so that people waiting for news of their loved ones can try to identify them.
